If we want to compete on all fronts next season then Matic isn't good enough for that.

I see these sorts of criticisms aimed at quite a few of our players. 

Cahill is seen as a poor defender, Alonso wasn't deemed good enough for large portions of the season. Costa apparently was useless for half the season. (All of which scrutinised for having massive weakness to their game such as lack of pace, poor first touch etc.).

And yet, despite a third of the outfield players being nigh on useless, we somehow managed to romp home to a very convincing title win... 

I just wonder, at what point do we acknowledge that these players did a good job this season? Yes they may be sold or replaced in the team but this narrative that they are a detriment to the team is a bizarre one to me.

Cahill is a solid defender prone to mistakes. Not fantastic. Not a donkey. He's just Gary.

Alonso was quietly one of our best players last season. People just overreacted that he wasn't a MASSIVE name signing and some of his older clubs were questionable.

Diego is Diego. He's by no means useless but has the ability to frustrate beyond belief. His ability is not in question. Just his motivation (or lack thereof) after January.

In regards to Matic though, yes he's part of a title winning side, but in comparison to every other player his performances were not to scratch. His only blessing was Kante hid this for long periods of the season. For me if I were lining up against Chels with Matic in the lineup he'd be the first player if aim to exploit. Too many shortcomings.

It's ridiculous tbh

I remember when Scolari was in charge and Drogba was off form, people were wanting him gone and said we should swap him for Adriano. Could you imagine if that had actually happened? We get rid of someone who would turn out to be one of our greatest ever players for Adriano of all people. Damn

I wouldn't worry, RIP. This is the kind of behaviour that is standard for him.

He's the kind of person who feels the need to reassert his supposedly superior beliefs over everyone else whenever he can to feed his massive superiority complex. I almost feel sorry for him, before I realise what a stupid cunt he is.  :laugh2:

In my opinion Kessie, Cyprien, Goetza, Dier and Tolliso, fall into the potential to be better than Matic but currently not quite as good, Although I don't see Dier ever reaching the level of Matic this season let alone the Matic of 2 years ago.
Personally wouldn't have minded us going for either of Cyprien, Tolisso or Geotze as I think they complement Kante more than Matic does and would have preferred them over Bakayoko.

N'zonzi isn't near Matic's level and never will be.

Keita and Fabinho have both had excellent years and are a lot more complete than Matic, whilst very expensive would be obtainable, I think RB Leipzig have quote £70m for Keita. However, I do think Matic will suit Jose and Man U current midfield better. 

I think Man U are more in need of someone great defensively to sit behind Pogba and Herrara and thats why Jose is after Matic.

I therefore also would throw Idrissa Gueye into the ring but will Everton play ball unlikely.

For me Jose picking up Matic and say Renato Sanchez for midfield would massively improve their squad and I would much rather they picked up someone like Dier or N'Zonzi instead.

Either way there isn't that many options and Matic would improve them and make them a lot more challenging in the League.

Yea I can agree with the fact he wants someone to sit back to free up pogba going forward, what's crazy to me is the only club I see being linked to keita is Liverpool....he has had an amazing season

Yeah, shame isn't it, the transfer rumour threads on here are just downright embarrassing, fans asking why we haven't signed loads of players yet, oh and why are we selling youngsters when they should....as well as the players we already have.....and the loads of players we should definitely sign....

You have a good point, but your post would have have more credibility if you managed to get through it without calling people morons. Bit ironic given the point you are making. 

But you are right never the less. 

Anyway, apologies for stinking the thread out. 

I had taken a break from this forum because I felt it was less and les a platform where I could interact with like minded people. I was hoping a bit of time away my change my view, but unfortunately the last day has reminded me why I stopped coming on here.

What the f**k? Haven't been on in a while and it's infighting all over the shop.

I don't see why people constantly bring up this new age fan/plastics pish, as if your age makes you in some way superior to others is ridiculous.

Even for our fans who have came around since the money or since the 00's, who cares? If they love Chelsea they're just as much a fan of this club as you or I. This superiority complex some people seem to have is embarrassing.

You can also quite easily show appreciation for a player for his service to the club (i.e. Matic) and still be able to see that we can do better. He's been poor for longer than just last season, people are kidding themselves on if they think that's been it. 

Our players, managers & fans talk about wanting to be or being one of the best teams in the world and then when people comment about how to improve or what players could be upgraded, everyone throws their toys out the pram.

For example, I appreciate Matic service to the club and for the contribution to our title wins but I'm sorry, in my opinion he's just not a very good footballer and if we can get £40m for him it's a steal. 

The summer break sends The Shed in to meltdown.

And there is no problem at all with posting it like that, it's how it should be. Unfortunately we now have fans who decide if a player isn't good enough they are deserving of abuse and vitriol, and sod appreciation and respect. I don't think Ake is as good as many believe he is, and I think it's great business getting that much for a player who in my opinion is 5th or 6th choice for us at best. But I don't think he's a prick or sh*t or a donkey or any of that other rubbish being posted about our current and past players.
