Sky/ESPN bias against Chelsea

If we are not hated we're doing it wrong. This is football, not ring-around-the-rosie.

ITV are probably sick of us since we dominated their football schedule last season.

I know we like to think that the media have it in for us way more than any other club but I would wager that if you go on to the forums of most other big clubs then there will be plenty of fans of those clubs who feel the same way. Just asmkost fans think they get the worst of it with regard to big decisions by refs.
Well said that man.

I have voiced my sentiment on this subject on here before and basically been laughed off and belittled but ill have to say it again after reading some of the hilariously over the top posts on this thread - i find the notion that the media have a fierce agenda against Chelsea to be nonsense and ultimately, very tiring.

There are far too many Chelsea fans (especially on this forum) who focus far too much on what is written and reported about us, almost to the point of obsession. As Loz states, there is not a fan in the land who doesn't think his/her team gets negative press on a consistent basis - just ask any Arsenal, City, Utd Spurs and (laughably) any Liverpool fan if they think they get repeated unfair bad press and they will all all start to rant - i bet you....

I would suggest we are in the press so much because we are such an easy target. The stories at Chelsea write themselves and they just keep coming, we really do not help ourselves in that respect. Id agree we are perhaps in the papers/tv more than we should be, but perhaps we just make it so easy for hacks to write about us ? Lets not forget the geography and our proximity to Fleet Street either. I will concede we are not as powerful a club as Liverpool and Man Utd and certain journos will write about us with more freedom and (often) spite because they no we do not wield the same power and do not have the same fear of but reprisals but come on, we just make it so frigging easy for them.

Yep, there are, without doubt, some hacks who do go beyond fair reporting when it comes to Chelsea, off the top of my head ill nominate James Lawton and Patrick Collins, who use such spite it borders on unprofessionalism, but to suggest this is common place across the whole field is nonsense. Every club has reporters who do not have a fair word to say about them, but there are also some who often and (unnecessarily) praise our club, in that case id nominate Rob Beasley and Martin Samuel. Fairs fair and all that. Sometimes it feels all one journo or medium has to write or report a negative sentence about he club and all hell breaks loose with some fans and the conspiracy theories pop up quicker than they do in he X Files. Its just so boring. Every time.....

The way some people talk on here its almost as if some sort of sadistic pleasure is taken in searching out bad articles, write ups or portrayals - seriously, it doesn't have to be this way. If you really do buy into the agenda theory, then just switch off. Dont read the papers, turn the radio off. Switch off SKY, don't watch Sunday Supplement if its offends you so much. Concentrate your efforts into supporting Chelsea, id guarantee it would make your lives so much easier and enjoyable!

I know im very much in the minority here and will get lambasted for this post but its simply how i see it. If some of the posts on this thread were posted on other forums (the same way some people here obsess over what is written on RAWK or Red Cafe) we would be laughed out of town.

Focus on the positives. Honestly, we are the luckiest fans in the world, we should never forget that.

McManaman I find pretty fair and evenhanded, pretty much always takes conciliatory view towards players whenever their judgement or ability is called into question.

Ian Darke, however, is a bar steward, and I detest him.
Ian Darke is on Sky Sports not ESPN

Got laugh at Tommy smith on ESPN soccer pass, said something like " Celtic beat Barca and did it without parking the bus like Chelsea". Are you serious, they had 16% of the possession. That robbie guy was so cofident we will go out with 2 games to go, let's make him eat some humble pies in Turin/

I'm pretty sure he left Sky for ESPN a couple of years ago. He used to commentate on boxing but was replaced by Nick Halling
Dd he? I didn't even know des he still do footy cause everytime I watch footy its Jon Champion

Me old mate... although I do agree with your overall sentiment (we both know these forums, although still the best by far have morphed particularly in recent years) , I think there are some excellent posts and some concrete evidence on these forums of where Chelsea have been extremely badly treated by the press.

This has grown from the negative press in particular JT has received of late, which quite frankly has been nothing short of disgraceful and not just from the examples of hacks you have given but throghout and the postive things on JT, get a line or two, at times you would think he was Andres Brevik ! really it is pretty awful. I have people at work looking at me with distain as I defend him to the hilt ! So to me this is an example of something that really does run deep.

I agree there is no "conspiracy" but if there is a sniff of negativity at a successful club the press are going to go for it as you suggested; certainly agree with the comment of switch it off ! (however I am a hypocrite as I regularly listen to talksport so I can spend an hour shouting at the radio, or in the case of Collymore, laughing my bo**ocks off)

There are calls for our immediate relegation "if we have slandered" Mark Clattenburg. I kid you not. But no, there's no agenda or anything. They would say the same about United or Liverpool in the same situation....

Just embarrassing. As someone commented below the article, do the police get sacked when they bring charges against someone but don't secure a conviction? in such cases, do rape victims face the same sanction the accused would have faced if found guilty?

The response to this whole affair beggars belief. And some people's understanding of why the police have dropped their investigation is laughable.

If there's a threat of relegation for a false allegation, no club will ever report racism again.

The same kind of people cling remorselessy to the belief that John Terry being found Not Guilty proves nothing. That the FA are the real arbiters of truth and justice in this country. Oh and just for good measure, they thrown in the invention of a Not Proven verdict.

Suddenly Clatternburg is "Clatts" or "Mark", a great referee who has been shamefully abused, in the same manner as Anders Frisk. Maybe somebody could dig up the death threats that apparently forced poor old Anders into retirement. She must have been some scary schoolgirl, that's all I've got to say.

Its just pathetic I have been studiously avoiding the media (except for Chelsea tv and only watching our games on the telly, not any of the news reports etc) as much as I possibly can.

Reading vitriolic comments from "journalists" and "neutrals" is a waste of my time and energy...

There are a few notable exceptions (Thank you Martin Samuals) but by and large I find the media to be a bunch of c*nts.

Its not just us that gets stick, I accept that, it just feels like sometimes our club cannot do anything right.

As for Clattenburg he should never have been allowed to ref big games, after he threw his toys out of the pram when he got banned before, and the powers that be backed down and allowed him back, his dealings with his erstwhile business associates proves that he lacks clarity of judgement, at the very least...Still as Tommy Doc so rightly states, he has now joined the long list of Martyrs on the Chelsea bonfire along with Anton Ferdinand, Tom Henning Ovrebo, the Reading Ambulance service, Frisk, and the rest of Football in general it seems...

We all know the drill folks so its time to stop reading, subscribing and letting it get to us, I am seriously considering giving up my Sky Subscription over all this, instead of just moaning about the injustice of it all, but my Husband is not keen...Its become a real bone of contention in our house at the moment...

Anyway remember the shameless slander of the dead at Hillsborough, that tells you all you need to know about the media in this country...Filth the lot of 'em, but we keep them in business, so maybe we get the reporting we deserve....
