Innocent until proven guilty yadda yadda yadda,
Do I take it from that, you don't actually subscribe to the most basic tennet of English Law?

Jesus f**king christ. If JT's career is ruined in this, it's his f**king fault for making the comments.
If or when he is found guilty of making those remarks then that will be absolutely true.

And no, he hasn't milked anything from the media
I'd beg to differ there. The way in which he and QPR have reacted to this incident has made it quite clear that they are pre judging the issue. That's their prerogative, but I would maintain that it is also the primary reason that they are getting stick from Chelsea fans.

Racism is a serious issue no matter how much you try to trivialise it, and it shouldn't just be "dismissed".
Racism is a serious issue although, purely from a legal standpoint, it doesn't seem to warrant more than a maximum fine of £2,500. Which, in turn, rather begs the question as to why the matter is in the hands of the courts at all and not simply being dealt with by the FA?

No-one is really suggesting that the matter be dismissed. Most would just rather wait until the outcome of the court case. Rushing to judgement before that is pretty moronic in my view.

Well said, ES! ::clap2::

Because a member of the public complained, which means the police have to look into it, and should they think there is sufficient reason to suspect a criminal offence, off to the court it goes. The FA had no say in that as far as I know.

My problem with Anton is that he tweeted after the event, prejudicing the case, implying that Terry was lying. His brother tweeted after the FA announced the case wouldn't be heard until after the Euros, pressurising the FA to strip Terry of the armband, even if he didn't say it directly. What a c**t Rio is, it had nothing to do with him. Anton appeared in a pop promo, in which the word "ni**er" is used. The QPR fans, during that infamous game, sung songs about Drogba having AIDS, which are obviously racist in tone. Anton has said nothing about that. If Rio and Anton get stick, it's because they fully deserve it as far as I'm concerned. Anton has done the rounds telling the press how hard it's been for him, how he's been targeted for abuse and wotnot, poor lamb. Has he any idea what Terry has to put up with? Anton even has his own column in the Evening Standard now, so he's done alright out of this, considering no-one had heard of him previously. He's an attention-seeking little twunt. And he's a crap defender. Before yesterday's game he said he wouldn't let the boo-boys affect him. I'd hate to see him when he is affected!!!

It only goes to court if the CPS decides that there is sufficient evidence and that it is in the public interest to proceed. I haven't seen the evidence, so can't judge that (unlike a lot of others appear to be able to do) but I can't see how the expense is justified given that there is already a disciplinary process in place with the FA. They seemed to be able to deal with the Suarez case quite happily.

I can't see how anyone can argue against this. Why would the QPR players have briefed the scumbags in the tabloids that they were going to refuse to shake JT's hand before the FA Cup match? If they were quite prepared to let justice take its course and let the court decide, they should have simply shut up and done the formal handshake. Their collective refusal spoke volumes.

If Ferdinand had not mouthed off to the press, how do you explain the story that the press wrote saying that Ferdinand had NOT accused JT of calling him a b**** c***? And even if he hadn't, that doesn't disprove JT's belief that he (AF) had thought he (JT) had said something racist (perhaps based on the two elbows Ferdinand hit him with seconds before)

Isn't there only a single piece of evidence? A videotape? Interpreted by a lip reader? And half of what Terry said was obscured by a player's head, so we don't know everything that he said? Not a single person on the pitch heard whatever it was that Terry said? Not one?

Perhaps there's another videotape from somewhere. But again, we're deciding a man's fate based on the questionable ability of a lip reader. It's surreal.

I can't escape the feeling that the CPS bowed to public pressure and decided the safest way to handle a political hot potato was to let someone else -- a judge or a jury -- make their decision for them. Craven.

As for the Ferdinands, I repeat that something's wrong with their wiring.

Anton never heard whatever it was that Terry said. So Anton and his crazy brother Rio are outraged based on the word of a lip reader who couldn't see Terry's entire sentence.

Clearly they have a different agenda, one that has nothing to do with whatever Terry said. This controversy is a convenient opportunity for them to attack Terry.

Agree with that waxman, they are both drama queens and might as well work for The Sun.

Clearly mistaking Malouda's head for a female steward's thigh.

This is all starting up again:

THE barrister defending Chelsea captain John Terry over a criminal racism charge might make a bad character application against Anton Ferdinand, his alleged victim, a court heard today.

Terry, 31, will stand trial at Westminster Magistrates' Court in London on July 9 accused of a racially-aggravated public order offence - shouting an offensive comment at Ferdinand.

The comment was allegedly made, and seemingly caught on footage, to the Queens Park Rangers defender when the two teams met during a Premier League match in October.

Today, during an administrative hearing ahead of the trial, Terry's barrister, George Carter-Stephenson QC, said he was considering making a bad character application against Ferdinand.

According to the Crown Prosecution Service, bad character "means the commission of an offence or other reprehensible conduct", and is used to cast doubt on a witness's evidence.

Mr Carter-Stephenson said: "There is likely to be an application for bad character against Mr Ferdinand about two incidents."

No details were given about the incidents.

However, the barrister added: "There is pertinent evidence which we believe will assist the court."

The Chelsea star did not attend today's hearing after playing for England last night in their quarter-final defeat to Italy at Euro 2012.

He denies the offence.

The court heard that both the prosecution and defence have commissioned experts to study the CCTV footage of the defender allegedly making the comment.

The experts are due to meet this week to discuss their findings and iron out any issues, two of which, the court heard, were pronunciation and body language.

District Judge Howard Riddle said he wanted a single report taking in both opinions.

In private, the court also discussed security arrangements for the trial, which is expected to last five days.

^ I don't know about a bad character application, but they could certainly make a bad defender application.

Open and shut, if you ask me.

I make JT England's player of the tournament, easily.

The Telegraph and the BBC website, amongst others, have him England's best player yesterday.

Credit where it is due, for a change.

I really hope this doesn't ruin our pre-season. Papers are gonna be unbelievable.

still don't think he has had the universal credit he deserves...it has barely got a mention...stevie me sets up three goals and all I've heard is how he is our best player etc...when he plays sh*t in a big game, he's then excused cos he's 'tired'...jt has been exemplary every match and played as big a part as anyone in us reaching as far as we did...yet I can't remember seeing a single headline reflecting that over the past two weeks

What else is new eh? They tried so hard to pin the 2010 disaster on him, until he turned around and put in a MOTM performance in the final group game. Then the press were singing his name in the streets. Idiots

For what its worth, pundits and comments on the bbc's live text during and after the game were full of praise for him. Its small comfort for you all, but most of the post-mortem's for England's tournament are about how Andrea Pirlo showed Steeeevie Me how to boss a midfield on sunday.

Im just glad our players were practically flawless. The media can find their scapegoat somewhere else.

Didn't the media have a go at him for appearing at that press conference? He took the lead and showed the way to victory when the team needed it and people were pissed off at him because he wasn't the captain.
