Queensland Roar just beat the Newcastle Jets 3-2 away

Exciting first half but all 5 goals were scrappy and from defensive mistakes. Paul Okon, the former Australian captain, had a shocker for Newcastle in defense.

That means Valerie could be singing "top of the league, having a laugh"

Until Super Clasico De Australia, Melbourne Victory vs Sydney FC.

We travel to our hated rivals with the biggest second-city complex I've ever experienced.

Last season they unfortunately thrashed us 5-0. However, sucks to be them, a run of 7 (SEVEN) straight defeats after that and they didn't even make the finals.

I know how to pick winners

I fully expect "us" to be top of the league still after Melbourne v Sydney

Chelsea Sydney:

Has there ever been a pitch invasion by a Platypus?

Not that I know of, but I can arrange for one...?

Valerie,

Roar have a very good prospect in 19-year old Dario Vidosic. Quick and delightfully tricky.

Things are not going your way, I gather

?

What position is that Vidosic playing? Can he replace Gallas and make a great linkup with JT? Please?

Valerie, Valerie, Valerie,

To say things are not going my way is gross understatement. Last night was one of the best football matches I've watched but I was gutted after it, absolutely stone-cold silent, angry, and shed a few tears.

Melbourne won, 3-2.

Adrian Leijer is a disgusting criminal of the highest order. In the lead-up(corner) to Melbourne's first goal, Leijer- Melbourne's central defender- made a cowardly and callous barge into Sydney's winger Robbie Middleby. Middleby was in fact making a run to the edge of the area when Leijer looked at Middleby, checked his run and ran straight- yes, he went out of his way- into Middleby with his shoulders. Middleby has been diagnosed with a fractured collarbone and a dislocated shoulder.

Soon after that their Brazilian winger Alessandro "won" a penalty despite being a) offside and B) a clear dive after challenging our keeper, Clint Bolton. 2-0 Melbourne and I thought it was going to be another rout.

Minutes later, our captain Mark Rudan was sent off for kicking Alessandro. :(

Cue, much to my surprise, a fight and character I have never seen Sydney show before. Sydney began to dominate the game and one foray down the right won a corner. Defender Iain Fyfe nodded it home to make it 2-1. Sydney dominated the next 25 minutes and we had a few chances but never anything clear-cut.

However in the second-half the tiredness of being a man down showed and Melbourne striker Danny Allsopp scored his second after a good through-ball.

Here are my thoughts from another forum :)

Let's see me write this...I'm sober.Adrian Leijer, it's not AFL. You can't do that to someone, it's f***ing assault. However pissed off I am about it there is one thing I can't deny and that's the fact Shields missed it and there's not a thing you I can do about it. sh*t happens, I guess. Who said football's a woman's game?

What happened then? Piss-poor marking by Sydney and Allsopp, Danny f***ing Allsopp nips around to score the opener. 1-0 Melbourne. Alessandro takes a tumble, clearly no contact and replays show him to be offside. Penalty, Muscat scores. 2-0 Melbourne.

Alessandro again takes another dive. A disgraceful cheating b*strd, as opposed to the admittedly classy Claudinho. Rudan won the ball quite fairly but it was a tackle from behind and a referee is entitled to give a yellow card- and a stupid brain fart from Rudan, he has no one to blame but himself. The injustice of two harsh goals got to him. Then Fyfe's fantastic header from Talay's corner. 2-1, Sydney.

What happened next was a poke in the eye for the likes of "technical" Foster as Sydney showed a fight and character that was NEVER present under the sterile tactician Pierre Littbarski. Sydney took on the game and Melbourne never, for one second, looked comfortable in defense. The possession stats showed a clear 60/40 advantage. First-timers at the game got to see the raw passion that a rival's game brings out in people, and for the first time many people got to see what distinguishes football fans from the rest. Despite there being 117 of "us" and 39,598 of "Them" the away Cove -whether it be the microphones or not- were clearly audible on the microphones and I'm gutted not to be a part of that. The atmosphere as a whole was fantastic however with a largely neutral crowd Melbourne fans sounded disjointed.

Milligan f*kced up for the third goal and it was a good idea of a pass from Muscat. Allsopp raced on to it and lobbed the best goalkeeper in the league. Again, a neutral fan got to see the joga bonito side of the game, the tricky interplay between Fred and Alessandro but more importantly the silky passing of Grant Brebner, and the determination and heart that Sydney showed through Steve Corica. It paid off- Carney grabbing a deflected goal to make it 3-2.

And yet again, a sour note as Fred elbowed Milligan in the thorax. A f***ing disgraceful piece of work and I hope that the FFA does something about it.

For a neutral, Melbourne seemed to be in cruise control- until Carney's goal. And for some it was their first time to see that most romantic of moments in football, the grandstand finish. A deflection a lucky touch a stray pass a clear missed opportunity....the pace of the game kept up a frenetic tempo.

As a Sydney FC fan, Melbourne Victory you are a bunch of dirty f***ing b*strds and you deserve to f***ing rot at the bottom of the table. Especially Adrian Leijer, a cowardly act of violence and it's f***ing funny that Alessandro needed to dive to actually do something. You takes your joga bonito and shove it up Craig Foster's arse, he likes that kind of stuff. f*** you Melbourne, kudos for winning, but I hope you get shagged like sheep by New Zealand.

As a 18-year old football fan who has for the past 6 or 7 years not only supported but tried to promote the game in at least small ways, that was a f***ing awesome spectacle and it had EVERYTHING good and bad about the sport of football in one game. First of all, hats off to Melbourne for the crowd. "If you build it they will come" was Lowy's motto and it paid off to see 40k spectators cram into Telstra Dome even when there was an AFL match on. In such a short passage of time we have already developed a fan culture that has infected the players. Both sides played with the passion that you'd expect in a game between rivals.

f***ing pissed off at the result and Melbourne's manner of victory, I'm gutted and I've shed more than a tear. But I think some of those were for the fact that the game has come a long way from cold nights eating chevapi rolls at run-down ground in Fairfield.

I'm looking forward to a scorching return leg, I hope those at the game enjoyed it as much as I did.
Record number of swear words for me!

Oh and Vidosic is an attacking midfielder/striker.

Leijer sounds like a Dutch name. I'm very proud

Sydney Chelsea - after reading your post, its motivated me to re-register to the CSR forums (formerly MrPez) , after I was content to just be a browser

I was at the game, and agree with you and disagree with you on several counts. I have to concede in advance, that I haven't as yet had a chance to see a replay of the game, or read any reports.

First I'll start with my agreements.

- (1) The crowd and the game were both fantastic. To get almost 40,000 and breaking the previous record by 13,000 is a fantastic testament to A-League and the Melbourne. Johnny Warren would've been proud.

- (2) Sydney played well, considering you were 10 men for most of the game. Coming back with 2 goals, was a great effort, and Carney's goal

was a cracker. I think our marking was quite poor for the Fyfe goal.

- (3) Bolton is the best keeper in the A-league, without doubt in my opinion. Don't know why he isn't playing overseas.

Now for the disagreements:

- (1) I did happen to see the Adrian Leijer incident. You've done him a vast injustice and frankly your assessment either suggests to me that you were incredibly bitter at the time of writing (very likely by the look of it), or you really need to watch the incident again. You seem to highlight that Leijer ran towards Middleby. Well what would you expect, Middleby had the ball, and Leijer is a defender. Yes body contact was made, and it was unfortunate that Middleby came off injured, but it was a foul, nothing more. Leijer is a fair, and a bright prospect and will be too good for the A-league very soon in my opinion.

As far as I saw, it was the Fred incident that you should be jumping up and down about. Fended your player off with an elbow, when the ball wasn't anywhere close, and i'm surprised he wasn't given a red. Can't excuse him for that

And I also see it as hypocritical to blast a player for upteen paragraphs for an agressive challenge in play, with only a minor mention of the indicent when your captain kicked one of our players who was on the ground at the time. It wasn't during play either. And we played disgracefully?????

(2) I can't comment on the Allesandro penalty without seeing a replay but it looked reasonable to me at the time. Bolton did get yellow carded for his challenge. But I may have to take your word for it on that one.

You do have to admit though, Allessandro showed some amazing ability and absolutely owned your defence.

Congrats to the Cove in their light Blue colours for getting there in such good numbers, but I couldn't hear them from where i was sitting. Did happen to hear one of the Melbourne chants "Your so crap, Yorke left you for Sunderland" - made me chuckle :)

At the end of the day, we couldn't have asked for a better game. Once again well done Sydney for the great contest, and I'm sure it has done wonders for putting a strong foothold for Football in this AFL dominated city

Well I'm glad you're back. :)

I've watched the Leijer incident several times. On a TV replay, it is quite obvious he looks for and aims for Middleby when barging. There is a clear distinction between that and him making a simple bodycheck or trying to obstruct Middleby.

Forgot to mention, we drew 1-1 with Perth. Worst performance this season against the second worst squad in the league. Also had a goal incorrectly ruled out for offside.

Valerie, Queensland just thrashed New Zealand 5-0, Matt McKay bagging two and new Chinese international signing Yuning Zhang involved in the set up of two goals.

No need to look so sad, you made ME very happy: at least one of the teams I support are top of the league
happy0034.gif
For the other ones, it's just a matter of time...

:woohoo: ....bandwagoner

[Deeply offended] Hey, I started supporting Roar before they were top of the league. Same for that other club, Chechelsea or something

Sydney FC pwnzeor9173951ed!!!! NZ a whopping 1-0.

90 minutes of my life I would never, ever get back. Great goal from captain and central defender Mark Rudan, a scorching first-time volley, from a throw, with his weaker foot, but that did not excuse our worst performance to date. Lethargic, worse than Liverpool in front of goal, and considering the "calibre" of the NZ attack the defense was appalling.

Only bright-sparks were Rudan's goal and Topor-Stanley's good performance, as well as marked improvement by ex-Queensland forward Alex Brosque, just coming back from injury.

Now the update for the bandwagon I mean Valerie (far-away fan!)

Queensland drew with Adelaide United (same colours as Liverpool mind you) despite completely dominating them. Queensland I believe had 22 shots to Adelaide's 8, completely carved them up through the centre and the wings but couldn't get anything on target. Adelaide striker Shenquing Qu was sent off for headbutting.

Before the match, the two captains had to read a statement on Fair Play. Adelaide captain Ross Aloisi was booked a few minutes later for a late tackle

Queensland's draw means Adelaide drop points and Sydney jump into third place! Now all we need is Melbourne to lose to Perth...

Can I believe my eyes????

Melbourne: Played 5, Won 5 (almost as many wins as we got last season)

Kevin Muscat, A-League top scorer ??????

Life is good, Go Victory !!!!!
