The Rio 2016 Olympics

Theres a lot of ill feeling in Brazil about broken promises for environmental improvements etc, I think people are really angry that so much money has been spent on the world cup and olympics that the promises have not been kept due to available money left over etc.

Was amazed at the gymnastics again last night.

Also, a lot of people in Brazil are living in poverty so I expect they have more pressing things to spend their money on.

He's probably the best human ever created for water.

But as for humans on land and in water, I nominate the Brownlee brothers as the ultimate athletes, competing in the toughest event.

 
Aren't there loads more swimming events than any other discipline? 

 
I've always found it odd that they have separate swimming events for each stroke. They should just have the 'freestyle' events and leave it at that. Track and field doesn't have a 100m sprinting backwards event, for example, so I don't know why swimming is different.

I agree,  they probably do it to stretch out the swimming event, instead of limiting the events and increasing the competitors in those events.

Imagine if the sprints had different 'stokes' like 100m hop, 100m skip.

 
But there is 110 meter hurdles which is kind of the same thing

 
Why has the diving pool turned a green colour?

Enjoying the gymnastics - as Zola has said, it is f**king phenomenal.

I remember when I first started watching the Olympics, the gap between the best and the Brits was embarrassing - ours were just doing very simple tumbles and routines whereas the East Europeans were doing seemingly ridiculous combinations.  I still find it difficult to believe we are actually in contention!

 
Many will disagree with me, but if I was a top athlete I would be devastated to get a silver or bronze. It's the football fan in me talking, but I don't understand how one could celebrate being anything other than number 1. Needless to say if I ever have kids it's an opinion to be rained in ASAP.

 
Well, its a global competition. Its a huge achievement to be on the podium, being in the top 3 in the world at something. Better that than training 7/8 hours a day, every single day and having nothing to show for it.

Gold in the pursuit cycling!  Bloody hell, it happened so quickly I'm not sure what happened!

 
It was pretty embarrassing wasn't it?  But still a silver medal.
