Timo Werner

I don't disagree with you but looking at some of the evidence in front of us Ziyech would score three times as many goals in a weaker league like the Bundesliga or Serie A than he would for us this season.
Well most players score more goals in weaker leagues.  Everyone but our American flop anyway.

But it's quite telling there's no interest in either Pulisic or Ziyech from any league.  We've apparently offered Pulisic to 2 Serie A clubs this season who turned him down.  Milan aren't keen on paying 8m for Ziyech. No one is keen on paying our 8m asking price apparently.

It's a sad state of affairs when we're moving on players like Werner before much less talented and capable options because he was the only one any club is actually interested in.

What also concerns me is that it us the same in house team doing this which is slowing everything up.

We need to commit the funds that we can pay now  recoveries from sales should bolster the following pot, not this. We need to have an inwards team and an outwards team.

The inwards team need to get their deals done no later really than next weekend to allow the other clubs to replace.

The outwards team need to separately move on Alonso,  Ziyech, RLC, CHO (maybe loan)  Gilmour, Possibly Barkley and Pulisic if the US owners allow it. Maybe Jorginho as he is in his last year.

Any money from sales then can go towards the winter window if necessary

Boehly should have got rid of Marina on day 1 given how terrible she was at her job.

But it's a concern how he didn't have a negotiating team to bring in immediately, you'd have hoped he'd at least spoken to possible candidates who would be able to come in and handle our transfer window during the bidding process.

Boehly deciding to lone wolf it and do everything himself was a big shock and while he's primarily been focused on bringing people in I think he's likely been shocked himself on how little interest there is in our deadwood.

Seems like he was still operating under the framework of American sports were you can just package a player you don't want as part of a trade deal and ship them off.

It's not just the lack of interest in our outgoing players but few people want to come here. Maybe due to the strength of our league, maybe due to an over estimation of our standing in European football by us fans but the reality it that few elite players seem to want to come here. So in my mind they need to lower expectations of player type, trust to the managers system and get players to fit that system.  If it fcks up then well we all know what the problem is.

You should give pulisic a rest sometimes there isn’t a need to pull him into every conversation. It’s not his fault we paid 70 mil for him .. and he did a couple of seasons ago be our best player when a system suited him..

he also contributed well in our UCL win..the current managers approach to have 10 touches before we enter the final third doesn’t help any of our forwards and this system where he has to play either as a 10 or a wingback is madness .. no wonder he looks so bad..

he is no messi or hazard but still man just chill with your vendetta

That doesn't explain why he was so bad before Tuchel.  Pulisic has actually had the 2 of the best seasons of his career since Tuchel took over.

He's been the worst attacking player at the club since the day he signed.  In his 1st season we went with a front 3 of Puli - Tammy and Willian for much of the season with the latter 2 looking levels above him all season and outperforming his even considering his once in a career purple patch.

And his lack of talent is the reason it wasn't a good decision to sell Timo.

Timo hasn't worked for us and I think we can all see he isn't suited for us but he's drastically outperformed Pulisic in both seasons he's been here.   Timo averaged more goals a season for us than Pulisics highest goal scoring season in his career.  There's just a massive gulf between them.

And because the replacements are so bad we've indisputably weakened the squad by selling Timo and we're now in a position where we're desperate for Aubameyang and imo at least 1 other forward to come in after the season has started.

90% of our problems stem from a lack of talent in attacking areas, the player that has been poor for all 7 seasons of his career going into an 8th season here exemplifies that.

Truth of matter is that, we like to big up our league and yeah it may be a pretty darn good league however let's not forget, in top European Leagues,  all the cities the elite clubs are from blow every top club in England's home cities.

Maybe there's an argument for London but even then, the crap weather in UK p quickly dilutes the strength of that attraction.

At the level elite players are at, in terms of pay, they will be happy to earn less in what they might perceive to be a city that provides them and their family a better quality of life.

Why do you think our (league in general) USP for sometime now has been the huge wages we could offer compared to the rest of Europe. We've got players on the bench earning more than some players in good first teams across Europe.

Knock on effect..... When they don't do well or become deadwood as some would call them, they are difficult to shift.

Caitlin if that is actually a genuine quote from Silva it raises a few interesting questions. Who are those players that "pretend" to love Chelsea?
Lukaku is a major one, but you can't really accuse anyone of pretending to love us if they never said they did so looking at our squad nobody else is guilty of that.

I cannot validate it as it was sent to me like that just but it looks clickbaity from social media. Timo seems to be like that but I dunno if Thiago actually said that. Thiago's wife had a different opinion about a year or so ago 🙂

All gone a but quiet on here since Werner wasn't impressing against a German team with a milkman in midfield and a nursery teacher in nets

Latest performance by him brought about this report.

'Christopher Nkunku and Timo Werner were barely heard from all day'

He has gone backwards, at least with us he got caught offside.

Why is our team filled with players from those " weaker " league's ? And we buy them because they inevitably looked good in those leagues ?

The Academy and America is where we should be looking for players.

surely ?

Yes, definitely.  But we snagged KDB from a poor (Swiss?) league and Salah from a poor (Dutch?) league, so there are plenty of pearls there (too bad those two got away).

The disrespect towards Genk 😲

My heart bleeds hearing this from a fellow Chelsea fan (as it's my team in Belgium 😄).

Salah came from Basel, Swiss.

KDB and Courtrois came around the same time from KRC Genk, Belgium.

A team where a lot of good footballer came through (including our new Senegalese French CB)

Maybe i'm going slightly off topic here

And I haven't been following Chelsea as closely over the last few seasons as I did before (the whole lockdowns killed some of my interest) so take this with whatever grain (or kilogram) of salt........

but........to me the problem isn't so much getting rid of players like Werner and Ziyech but the fact we bought them in the first place.

Probably less so Werner than Ziyech as at least Werner had a high ceiling (potential) and was young. I don't mind taking an educated punt on young, high ceiling players and it not working. But running off to buy mid-twenties decent but not great players that will never be truely world class seems pointless and stupid to me. Why go out to buy a player from A**x that is only going to lose his place to Ruben Loftus Cheek and cost more (plus fill a non-homegrown slot) in the process?

It would be different if we were going to just accept we aren't a top budget team anymore, but it's clear from the recent spurge (and the one under Lampard during hoaxvid19) that we are absolutely one of the biggest spending clubs in the world (after Man City and PSG, ahead of even Liverpool). We should only be signing players who are either a) world class or b) potential to be world class. All this messing around with middling premier league quality decent/good players who aren't homegrown is dumb and pointless to my mind.

We have a world class academy that's produced the likes of Mount, James, Tomori, Abraham, RLC and even Ake in recent(ish) years. They should be the back ups to the world class signings, not the likes of Ziyech or Drinkwater.

Basically if they aren't coming in to be starters or high ceiling potential young players, I think the place is better off filled with a homegrown or academy player.

So many are excited about the heap of new signing coming into the club and to be honest, I just see alot of signings that may be on the scrap heap like Ziyech in 3 years and us going out to spend another fortune on another bunch of not world class players.
