I keep hearing this " for his own sake" and it's hard to understand. He has already stated numerous times that he struggled to settle in at chelsea but in the past year he has started to feel more comfortable. Does he really want to be moving his family to another country and himself to another club just when he feels settled? I don't think so.

I think between ba, lukaku and torres we can get enough goals next season to go for the title. Many will disagree and some may agree but that's just the way I see it

 
Reading that makes me want to cry. I thought it was only another two years.

Torres is playing for a top club with a worldwide profile. I don't think his ego would allow him to step down because that would be an admission on his part, that he no longer warrants a place at such a club.

I saw his ego at work under RDM. I saw it about three times when he was substituted, even though he was playing sh*t. I saw it in Munich before the penalties. It's not clutching at straws it's saying it as I see it. I've seen it in interviews he's given. It would be forgivable if he could play, but he can't. I forgive Jose's ego because he's a damn fine manager.

Some may not see it as ego. I do.

Torres to Valencia is a pipedream IMO, because even if the clubs agreed, Torres wouldn't move. He would be a replacement for Soldado and he would have to restore his reputation with an inferior side. In short, it would be all on him. He's way too much of a preening peacock for that, IMO. He wants to be cosseted.

Edit: I think Jose would get rid in a heartbeat .. If he could.

We certainly will have to agree to disagree, because I think you've made a mountain out of a molehill based on a handful of small moments. And I certainly cant remember an interview (except for that one that, by all accounts, butchered the translation to say he was too fast for his teammates) where he has ever looked anything other than some doe eyed platitude speaker. But I know you see Torres as the cause of so much chaos at this club, while I see him (and his move here) as just another symptom of said chaos. 

Ultimately, I think his desire to stick around here isnt out of self-importance and refusal to see reality, but more from the fact that he has to justify having moved in the first place. If he capitulates, its an admission to all those scousers that threatened to kill his family and burned his shirt that they were right. I certainly think if a viable alternative was presented (and by that I mean a club that can pay, not just that has similar ambitions to chelsea) that a quick chat to state the club's position would have him out the door in no time. Provided we weren't sending him to the Caucus or something.

That is why the link to Barca gave me so much hope. They have the money, and as we have seen in the past, they have the will to take on/retain Spanish players that are clearly not in the top echelon anymore. But that's gone now and there is seemingly no way out.

I used to get very angry about Torres, as some of you know.

Now that we have Jose, i feel assured, that however he deals with him, it will be the right way and for the best, so I'm a little more relaxed.

If he stays he stays. That's okay. Under Jose he won't play if he's not performing and that's always been the sticking point for me.

Fair play yourself. This topic used to wind me up a great deal more, but after the depressing alienation of last season it feels like disagreements over players or signings dont really matter much anymore. (I see you were one step ahead of me with your last post)

What I think everyone can agree on now is that "Torres" will be synonymous with 1. one of the worst transfers in football history 2. one of the greatest moments in Chelsea history.



Still gives me the chills. Something so perfect about the scrappy upstarts silencing a huge stadium, and the only ones are a few thousand cheering up in the clouds  :biggrin:

 
So should we Benayoun a chance? Unless Mourinho can somehow alter Torres and make him as physically fit as he was in his best Liverpool days then nothing is going to change.

 
Nothing is really going to change with Torres.

Time and time again we get our hopes up. Now we have the slightest post Benitez momentum on his performance I would cut my losses.

After all .... He is still on a huge wage, + 3 years contract.

Also, he is blocking Lukaku - espcially if an eventual Rooney deal would fall through.

I say he is deadwood and I believe Mou knows this very, very well ...

 
I've come to terms with the fact that he's going to be here for another 2 seasons.

 
Spuds have bought Soldado so IF theres any grain of truth to this unfeasible rumour we shall see shortly.........

Sell him for nothing and let Valencia use the money they save from not paying Transfer fees to pay his wages. 

He is not good enough to be first choice at a top club but he is getting paid like a World Class player. Simply put a first choice striker from the Championship can provide what Torres provides for us during the last 2 and a half years and at the very least that player will be on 1/10 of Torres's wages.
