That's not what was said, but let's explore your point.

Ali Dia has Premier League experience. Lionel Messi has MLS experience. Which one would you choose to play for Chelsea?

Next point - this isn't Sunday league mate. You do realise that Premier League managers have access to all kind of analytics and footage to inform them of the ability of their players?

Further to that Poch would have seen both in training.

Presumably you, a layman, has managed to ascertain that Petrovic is the better keeper? With all the resources Poch has at hand you don't think he should have been able to come to the same conclusion?

Jesus wept.
Yeah, break it down into its simplest form it sounds ridiculous. If that’s how your seriously interpreting the argument of opting for experience then maybe you need less time on your fantasy football and a crash course into critical thinking instead.

if you would have properly explored my point, I refer to the fact that Poch has come into an extremely hostile environment in the summer, the fans relationship with the owners and team risking turning toxic and he needs to first provide stability before looking to kick on.

In this scenario, when you have 2 viable options for your keeper, no matter what the existing data is telling you, it isn’t outrageous to assume he would opt for the safer, known quantity of Sanchez playing in the premier league. We know he can deal with it, it isn’t a step up and he isn’t likely to sh*t the bed.

Petrovic has been solid, hindsight is a wonderful thing. But he had only played in a far inferior league to the prem (unlike Messi in your ridiculous response).

But say this had gone wrong, Poch went the other way and petrovic dropped clanger after clanger. Poch would be questioned 1000% more for taking the risk given our current situation.

Apparently none of that applies if we are talking about Ian Maatsen though ... right ? LOL

My point was Poch probably had a better idea of Sanchez given he likely kept an eye on the premier league during his managerial absence. Add the fact Sanchez was brought in to compete with Kepa.

Petrovic came from the MLS and given the influx of young players we brought in I wouldn’t be surprised if Poch wasnt familiar with him. Hence sticking with Sanchez primarily.

Goal keeper training to my knowledge isn’t a great determiner of which goal keeper has an edge over the other. This can only be analyzed “in game”.

Poch didn't pick either of them out of choice - didn't even pick Petrovic in the early league cup matches.

Both have performed extremely well (when selected in their natural positions).

Anyone starting to see a theme?

Poch would not only have had access to stats and would have seen them in training but also our goalkeeping coach, Ben Roberts, was formerly at Brighton and would know Robert Sanchez' game inside out. He would have known he's an excellent shot stopper but like a rabbit in the headlights with the ball at his feet - did Poch not talk to him to get an insight in his game? If he did then why the hell was he instructing the team to play out from the back? And if he didn't... Why the hell not? Either way Poch doesn't come out of it looking good.

As for your point about Petrovic being from the MLS, we have an entire squad full of players who are inexperienced but he's not had a problem throwing them into the team. Nicolas Jackson has been a mainstay despite only playing 1 season at Villareal. He even gave Diego Moreira a shot before Petrovic.

No.

I'm just seeing the manager pick the players that he considers the best available options, having most probably considered, as you say (when it suits your argument), all the analytics and data the club has, plus what he is seeing in training.

Far too much anti-Pochettino rhetoric on this site at the moment.

I know you're not a fan of "Poch bashing" as you call it, but like it or not this is just a simple case of him selecting the wrong player. What his selections are based on, we can only guess, but if those selections are wrong then I see no reason why we shouldn't say so.

You must agree with this since you yourself think Petrovic is the better keeper.

Overall Poch is doing okay in difficult circumstances, but some of his selections have been baffling.

Why do you think his selections are wrong ?

There is a logical justification for everything he's done so far.

Sanchez was the clear #1 at the start of the season. Once Sanchez was injured, Poch has probably looked at all his other three goalkeepers, looked at the data and analytics, discussed at length with the goalkeeping coaching team, watched them all training, and decided that Petrovic will play.  Petrovic has stepped up and looks better than Sanchez, so credit to Petrovic. Maatsen was given 409 minutes on the pitch and looked unconvincing and out of his depth, certainly in comparison to what Alfie Gilchrist has shown in the 155 minutes he's had so far. Not much whinging on here about Gilchrist being played out of position either btw.
