I did not think that we played so poorly as others have written, mostly because Wolves played well and did not pack it in. Our defence was cobbled together, and they did a reasonable job. The midfield looked OK, especially with Ballack not having Lamps out there with him (they do not seem to play well together, but by themselves, they do well). Cech was of course excellent, and Drogs also top notch. Bruma looked like a frightened fox in a foxchase, and made some elementary mistakes on simple trapping the ball and wall passes. I would have liked to have seen Hutchinson out there instead, but I am not sure if he was on the subs list.
Hutch is injured yet again unfortunately. I really fear for his football future

3 points is 3 points plus if we beat the Citeh next week we could be 7 points clear due to the tourist side of manckyville playing in the mickey mouse final.
Dammit just seen the mancs are playing the spammers in midweek - didn't realise that

Told you this morning we would beat them..and boy did we.....shame our season is only just starting...and without Fellaini Cahill and Jageliga...oh its good to be a blue :)...good luck!...:) think we have done you a massive one ..

Thank you, Toffee. It is hard to root against Everton, and David Moyes is such a good person. I even like Tim Cahill, and think his heading skills are the best in the world. Some people don't like the agressive of Fellaini, but I like his attitude. Saha always kills us, and Tim Howard always plays well against us. You did very well in getting Donovan, and maybe you can arrange something with the LA Galaxy and keep him.

Good luck the rest of the way, and don't forget to defeat Arsenal when you play them.

put it into perspective we had Lamps, Ash, Essien, Alex, Bossy and riccy missing meaning at least 5 1st choice players missing.
My thoughts exactly, with those players (and more) missing it went well. It was nice to see Paulo and Bruma getting some time also.

First, what a great showing by Everton. Hats off to them.

Second, three points is three points. I was a little disappointed with the showing, because I thought I would see more. I then remembered that a lot of our first teamers were out which certainly lifted my spirits. And hats off to the Wolves, they certainly played tough. Overall, I'm content and we're up by 4 in the Prem. :)

MOTM: Cech, hands down. He made a couple of brilliant saves that reminded me of how world class he is. :)

Three points is three points, but I would have liked us to get them in another way. I would have liked to see us take them by either playing nice beautiful football or else solid and secure. We did neither.

Today game was perhaps one of the most boring displays I have seen in a long time. I even abandoned the game to watch Project Runway instead. I rather see someone make a dress that look like someone has eaten a bunch of fabrics and then threw it all up again, than see so-called great players play a game that is less fun than watching paint dry.

Two players deserves applauds today. Drogba scored two goals for us and it doesn't matter if that was all he did, those goals gave us the win and they were nice as well.

But the most important player was perhaps Cech who saved us a number of times. Not only that he assisted on the 2nd goal. How far did he kick that ball? Amazing.

The rest out there were either bad or worse.

The vacation Terry had doesn't appear to have helped him at all. Big mistakes against Everton and today atleast one that could have ended with a goal for Wolves. Errors we never see him make.

Ivanovic wasn't as great as he has been since taking over from Bosingwa, but considering that he today played in the centre instead of as RB he did well. Nice to have someone who can play in several different positions.

His replacement Ferreira was unfortunately not able to fill Ivans shoes. I want to like Ferreira (and I do on FM since he's okay there) but he's simply not good enough for Chelsea. Credits for never complaining though.

Zhirkov is great going forward, but perhaps not the most solid defender in the world.

Still, I hope he's not going to miss some games now because if the choice is between him and Ferreira I know which one I prefer.

The midfielders weren't great either. They occasionaly did some good things, but overall they simply weren't good enough.

And can someone please tell me when we should expect Joey to return to his old self?

Really, since he made his comeback he hasn't done much good and so far we've said "well it takes some time to get back on track after being out for so long", but surely he's been back long enough now?

I hope I'm wrong but I am starting to think that Joey never will make it back to his old form. In which case him not reaching a settlement on the new contract might be good. I'm sure we can still get a few cents for him.

Ballack works hard, but that's about it.

Mikel I'm not so sure about. As a defensive midfielder it is sometimes hard to realize exactly how much (or how little) he does. One thing that stood out for me however was his passing ability. Many here have said that he can't pass well forward, but today he produced some nice long balls out to the flanks. Passes one usually see from Lampard. So I think some are too hard on him.

With Anelka it's a bit like with the defensive midfielder. He does alot of great things on the pitch that we might not see every time. A swedish "expert" once showed how useful he is even when he hasn't got the ball and it was quite amazing.

So even if he didn't score today or made some fancy passes he might still have done a great job, without us noticing it.

As for Drogba, well the guy scores 2 goals to make it like 11 goals in 12 games (or is it 11 games). Chelsea had 2 shots on target, both from Drogba and both went in. Lethal striker that Drogba.

One thing that surprised me a bit was the lack of substitutions by Ancelotti. Zhirkov got injured so he had to go off and Bruma came on, which was nice (though, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Bruma a central defender? so why not let him change places with Ivan?). But that was the only one.

We have lots of players missing, lots of games to play and a very important one this wednesday(?). So why not try and take some players off and rest them. When we went 2-0 up the three points was more or less in the bag so I would have liked to see players like Drogba be taken off. Not only to give them some rest but also to not risk any injuries.

Wolves played really well but we scored the goals and sometimes that can make the opponents a bit cranky and we've seen some nasty challenges before because of that. What if Drogba and Anelka got injured. I shudder to think what that would do to our hopes of winning.....well any title at all.

Anyway. We got the three points today. Might not have been pretty and there might have been loads of faults. But we won and in a way that is good. We proved that we can have a crap game with the opponents creating more than us but still manage to win thanks to some players who stepped up when others stepped down.

Thanks you, Drogba and Cech.

Your last post demonstrates more than any other why I see you as a temporary fan. No matter how badly we play I can never ever imagine, when a live Chelsea game is on, choosing to watch something else. If you want to be guaranteed entertainment then read the critical reviews of plays and films and then spend your money on those. They guarantee you consistency because they rehearse and rehearse until they can deliver time and time again. Sport will never give you that, it will always be subject to variables that mean you arrive wondering what will happen next.

Being a football fan has nothing to do with being judgemental about oscillating entertainment and everything to do with your week being ruined or capped by a win, loss or draw.

It wasn't great to watch, but I was happy to see:

1.) how Ivanovic would do at CB - to me he played both there and his regular position (nod to BlueBeard), and did superbly.

2.) Z and F filling in in back - not so much. I think Z is a midfielder or striker

3.) Ballack and Cole forced to assume some midfield leadership - let's just say we need either Lamps or Essien on the field. Good thing our opponent was less than stellar

4.) More GoldenBoot play to keep it from Rooney

5.) Road win

And the best part - pulling away from MU :rainbowdance:

Well if I'm a temporary fan then I've been it for a very long time.

And it's got nothing to do with entertainment. If I was a temporary fan (yay, Roman came!) and I only wanted entertainment then I would have left a long, long time ago and probably would spend my time on a Gooner forum or something. I mean, we hardly played amazing fancy football when Jose was here, did we? It was strong defence and hard work. How many 1-0 wins did we actually get?

No, I don't mind if we play like s*ite and win. Every team has a bad day sometimes.

And as for switching over to another channel, well I love watching Project Runway and due to different reasons I have missed a few episodes so I had to switch over and watch some of it. Having said that, I did watch the game as well. A few minutes dress-making and then a few minutes watching 22 men in shorts kick a ball.

And as for your last paragraph (is that the word?), I have to disagree. I know there are alot of football fans who can feel that their week is ruined if their team lose and I respect that. But I also think there are those, like myself, who doesn't feel that way.

I'm not saying I would shrug my shoulders if we lost a game. Heck no, I would sulk and feel quite p*ssed off. I mean, I still can't forget our game against Barcelona. I can hardly watch Essiens wonderful goal because it reminds me of that game.

But, over the years I have managed to make myself move on quickly. I love football and watch lots of games (though probably less than some real die hard supporters), but I do not want a game to determine if my week is good or bad.

Sure, if we're talking about the final of Champions League or a league game determining who'll win the league, then of course it's something special. I mean, if we won the CL then I would probably be overjoyed for many days to come. But if we lost a game in the league, like the one today, I would be annoyed, but after a few hours it would start getting better and by the next morning it'll be a "damn, but we can't them all" or something.

So, in conclusion, I see myself as a real football fan and not a temporary fan of Chelsea. I might not have supported the team for as long as many here (only 15+ years, but then again, I am younger than some here and I also started watching football later than probably all of you who live in England), but that doesn't mean I'm less of a fan (incidentaly, who do you determine how big a fan someone is?).

I couldn't give a toss about how much we win ever again, we were and always will be back to back champions :rainbowdance:

All I care about is putting the tarts on the Thames in their place every year :D

so let me get this right, you were watching Chelsea but because it was a poor game you turned over to some reality tv sh*te? f**king unbelievable.

Moos: The above and the fact that your weekend isn't ruined if Chelsea lose (as you said above) mean you are not a proper fan in my opinion.

Have you ever been to the Bridge btw?

Moos,

Would you have turned the TV over if it was Juventus playing?

There is a feeling you get when Chelsea lose that is beyond logic, 90 mins and 2-0 down and really under the cosh a part of you still thinks they can get back in with the two minutes injury time..you can't be switching channels because its a poor game.

I've never ever turned off a Chelsea match, ever. I've missed a few, but once I start watching, I never ever turn it off, it's almost a law that you must watch every minute you can of your team. Every win makes me happy, a draw makes me sometimes okay, sometimes bad, and a loss is an absolute sickener.

Moos

Maybe temporary was the wrong word, maybe part time is more accurate. I didn't really mean it to sound like I was having a go at you. All I meant was that anyone who turns over a Chelsea game to watch something else (irrespective of what they turn over to see) because they don't think we are playing well enough is a supporter with a mentality very far removed from my own. I suppose what I meant was I just couldn't imagine ever doing that.

Iv'e always thought Moos was a Juve fan, and his favourite team in England was Chelsea, thats the jist I get from reading his posts.
