Your First Ever Chelsea Game...

That was the first game for my two daughters Sara and Stacy. Freezing cold, drizzling rain and we were in the unfinished lower tier of the west stand and therefore exposed to the elements. Sara was the sporty one of the two but I thought "that's it, neither of them will want to come again". I was right as far as Sara was concerned but Stacy surprised us all by becoming a regular for the next few seasons. She hasn't been to any games either last season or this because she's taken up a role in the dreaded football nemesis that is retail which means she works every weekend. She was even there when Maka scored!!
Was that the double take penalty against Charlton before the infamous Ruby?

OK I know you all assume I've never been to a Chelsea match! But my first Chelsea match was at the Dell in Southampton on 3rd October 1966. Chelsea won 3-0. It was peeing with rain, and I was surrounded by tall blokes and had to keep peering through the gaps between their shoulders (no seats in those days!)
That game was on 3rd.September 1966, but pedantry asside, congratulations moi, you're one of the very few Chelsea fans to have seen Alex Stepney's only game for us! ;)

I was in the North Stand that day, doing my duty alongside a few hundred other Chelsea fans B) Malcolm Allison came up to the Palace fans in the North Stand End before the game with his daft hat on, and was giving it large. I can still remember the look on his face as a huge mob of Chelsea gave him the w*nker sign and started singing "Allison's a w*nker, Allison's a w*nker, la la la la, la la la la" (they don't write 'em like that anymore). Chelsea were in Division 2 at the time, and Palace in Division 3, sh*t result, but a great day out!

So far as I can remember, Palace were 2-0 up at half-time, then Steve Wicks pulled a goal back. Ray Wilkins then equalised, but Peter Taylor scored his second and Palace's third to win the game. B*stard!

14 February 1976, FA Cup 5th.Round, attendance 54,407

Chelsea 2 (Wicks, Wilkins) Crystal Palace 3 (Taylor 2, Chatterton)

Chelsea: - Peter Bonetti, Gary Locke, Ron Harris, Charlie Cooke, Micky Droy (David Hay), Steve Wicks, Ian Britton, Ray Wilkins ©, Teddy Maybank, Kenny Swain, Bill Garner

Crystal Palace: - Paul Hammond, Peter Wall, Jim Cannon, Derek Jeffries, Stewart Jump, Ian Evans, Nick Chatterton, Martin Hinshelwood, Alan Whittle, David Swindlehurst, Peter Taylor

Allison did the same at the Shed End where I was and where about 6,000 sang the same! These days he'd been done for inciting a riot after what went on during the first half of that match. When Palace went 0-2 up no-one was watching the football, all the entertainment was in the in the Palace section of the North Stand with areas of fighting opening up here there and everywhere with blokes moving a cross a gap, landing a punch or (kung-fu) kick, it was continuous. In those days the North Stand wasn't divided but one big open terrace and away fans usually stood behind the goal or ended up being chased across it up against the fence where the old seated bit was.

Wilkins equaliser sparked off for me the longest goal celebration I can ever remember watching Chelsea and then one massive "You'll never walk alone" right across the whole end. We were starved of success in those days and the FA Cup was the best route to glory and being beaten by some two bob third division outfit was hard to swallow. I've hated Palace and especially Peter Taylor to this very day and whenever he gets sacked which is pretty regular I have a chuckle. I had a good weekend.

I remember that game well, mainly because it was so one-sided it was boring. You're quite right about the bloke with one arm, I can still remember everybody in hysterics when he forgot himself and went to take a throw-in. You're also right about the player wearing glasses, though I'm not sure if he was a sub or not. I told people on here about that game some time ago and nobody believed me

Unfortunately I can also cast my mind back to the Atvidaberg game and John Hollins missing a penalty
Yep was at that game too....he started the game (the fella with glasses)i think he was their left back surname Poos??.....possibly!!........i still have the programme i'll have to dig it out!!!

Forest- November 1991, just turned 5 (which makes me a newly turned 23 year old now), Jockstrap senior took me, all I remember was being bollock freezing cold and I missed the only goal of the game- a Kerry header- as I was more interested in Stamford. For some reason I've been hooked ever since!

Nice forum btw.

Well, I've marked down the destruction of Wolves this season as my first proper Chelsea match, but the first time I saw the boys play in person was a 50 minute drive away from my house at the Galaxy's Home Depot Center.

We played the Suwon Blue Wings on my birthday in July and won the match 1-0 I believe. Memories from that match include just being giddy like a child with delight knowing I would be seeing them. This was also the true birthplace of CIA and the PCB not to mention the OCH and the CN's. That's Chelsea in America, Pacific Coast Blues, OC Hooligans and Chelsea Nomads. We love acronyms.

A couple days later was the big "Beckham's First Match," circus that saw Sidwell almost saw Becksies legs in half. The notable tune of the match was...

"Who is that star wearing shirt 23? F*ck off Dave Beckham it's Cu-di-ci-ni!"

But like I said, Wolves at Home this year was my first true match. A 4-0 victory at the Bridge. I was finally home. Too many memories of that whole day to put down here. Every second was soaked up. Ahhhhhh.

I've just looked through this thread and was surprised that I hadn't already posted mine up!

Anyway, it was the 3-0 win over Valerenga in the cup winner's cup. It was a comfortable win, but I'll be honest, I can't remember much from the match other than it raining a little bit and us not being in the covered bit, Wise and Zola scored, and I got told off by my dad for singing one of the songs wrong. I misheard it and wanted to join in. It's more the day surrounding it that I remember. I was getting to go as a special treat. My granddad had just died and my parents were amazed by how I handled it and wanted to do something special for me, so this was it. I was really excited all day at school and couldn't wait, I was jumping up and down... well... not quite as it isn't my style, but close enough. We took the train into to London, and then the tube on to Stamford Bridge, as I'm sure you'd expect. While we were waiting for ours to come, we heard this huge amount of noise and saw the Valerenga supporters almost knocking this tube car off the rails with their jumping, so we (quite sensibly) waited for a quieter one. So the next one, is a bit quieter so we get on, and on here this huge mountain of a guy, about 10 foot tall, 6 foot wide, wearing a viking helmet (maybe not), and a massive beard (I was 10, so might be exaggerating that, but he was huge compared to me at least), asked for my mum's permission to speak to me and gave me a Valerenga pin to put on my scarf after I explained to him how it was my first game and that I was really excited.

I think we got off a couple of stops before Fulham Broadway, because I remember walking for ages, and having a McDonald's. The game was good and Albert Ferrer was phenomenal, he was just constantly running. I was also amazed by some crazy jumping thing the Valerenga fans did where it looked like they were all changing seats, but like I said, I don't remember much about the actual match. After the game though, everything got even better. We went for a curry at a place near by, which was great and I got a free dessert for some reason (this seemed to happen a lot back then), I think I told the owner about the day I'd had so far and he was impressed, so that might have been why I got the free thing... I think it was ice cream I had. So the bill came and my dad paid for it as usual and we asked him to order us a taxi, as we couldn't be bothered to walk to the tube. This would be a good enough day already, right? It got better. The owner said that, unfortunately the taxi rank had run out of taxis at that time, so we couldn't get one back to the train station. He did say however that they were willing to cut us a deal and provide us with a limousine for the same price as a taxi. So me, a 10 year old kid who's had a ridiculously good day, gets to go home in a limo. That pretty much tops off any day and makes it a bit special.... not to mention that DAVID HASSLEHOFF (of single-handedly breaking down the Berlin wall fame) himself was in that very limo, just a few hours prior. Yes it was a great day, during a not too great time, but I don't think I could have asked for a better first experience with Chelsea. I just wish I could have been more often.

First time I was at the Bridge to actually watch a match was Chelsea - Blackburn in 2005. We won 4-2 and it was a great match !

Can't remember mine - it was far too long ago. Against Wolves or Stoke, maybe? I seem to remember a young Barry Bridges (or it might have been Gael Kakuta) making his debut.

Ossie got two and John Hollins got the other (in fact John Hollins scored for 6 games in a row at this time - Huddersfield, WBA, Coventry, Plymouth, West Ham and Jeunesse Hautcharage. Must have taught Frankie a thing or two!)

cheers mate. i had a feeling ossie might have scored at least once that day but i wasn't sure. i don't remember john hollins scoring (be fair it was a long time ago!!) but it might go some way to explaining why i think of him as more of a goalscorer than he actually was!!

Have not been able to go to the bridge yet, only 18 years old and keep telling myself that I will go to one at the end of the season but its pretty expensive to fly from Sweden, get a hotel and tickets in a good seat.

Anyway, I started to follow Chelsea when I was about 9, and the first game I saw was in the 2000/2001 season against Aston Villa.

Date : 27-08-2000

Aston Villa 1 - 1 Chelsea

If i remember correctly desailly scored the equaliser ?

Absolutely no idea but my mum says she took me to my first game when I was about 6 or 7 and that would make it mid 60's.

I will never forget clambering up the concrete steps (they seemed huge) and looking down to see this beautiful green pitch in the middle of London.

I was hooked from the moment I went to SB. That coupled with being born in Chelsea helped.

First game I remember was a Wolves/ Newcastle game, maybe, god knows. In fact I am consistently impressed with how much some people remember. I can remember some games but they all seem to meld into one overall sense of excitement, passion and commitment.

I do remember going one season and not seeing us win until we played in the FA cup. I was sure it down to me until we carried on losing whether I was there or not.
