Anthony Gordon

Barney Ronay capturing it well:

This para resonated:

"Do we actually need the football here? Do we need the long-form version, Gordon on the bench looking cold in a beanie hat, a much-mocked missed open goal, the Newcastle rumours?"

Ah still seems many agree Everton are not budging on this deal. Alas all the times I could hear the flash Gordon theme song every time I saw him chase after someone or run with the ball...

Ah well some things are not meant to be... like @Munkworth ever being nice to me...some dreams just don't come true @Valerie

Awww @axman2526 Perhaps it will happen yet! It needn't on my account, but there's still the unique talent in him of running a lot...

Lamps deserves every penny and more.
The only thing I want more than us not signing this player is us winning the league.

Absolute shambles if we pay £40m for him. That would have been us fleeced not to talk of current figures being bandied about.

Worth every penny of we pump the flash Gordon theme at the bridge every time he runs with the ball

Frank has gold sky Sports, and repeated Gordon will NOT be leaving Everton:

"

Lampard: Gordon will stay 'for a long time'

Anthony Gordon put speculation over his future behind him to net his first goal of the season to earn Everton a point at Brentford this afternoon.

Frank Lampard was bullish in his comments about the 21-year-old after the game, saying: "I see him being an Everton player for a long time - my advice to him now is just to cut out all the noise in his head whenever he plays or trains, and I'm delighted for him today."

Most media sources claim this one is over now as Lamps imposed a deadline we had to reach an agreement over the deal and that has apparently passed.

The Mirror are the only ones who think it's still on, that I have found anyways, and even describe it as "imminent" as they claim he gave a special goodbye to the Everton fans at Brentford.

And in the end the real question Gordon to Chelsea raises is the most basic one: what is the point these days of Everton football club? Is it to compete, to strive through smart moves and homegrown talent to match the top tier? Or simply to service those entities, to exist as a backdrop?

…..

Depressing but true for Everton fans.
