Yes some match officials are incompetent, but if we were good enough, we wouldn't have to rely on a decision going our way here and there...it's easy to blame others, but our finishing was poor yesterday, so was the defending for the equaliser and the last half hour we resorted to desperate long punts instead of playing football

No - because he didnt say 'the FA wont let us and win it' and he didnt say they should all 'be up on max fixing charges'. He isnt stupid. He words were (as always) very calculated, he was clearly unhappy with Dean. But deep down he knows the score, he is protecting the players, and he knows their flaws and he knows why we arent going to be champions this season, and it wont be because of officials.
Incidentally, Rui Faras performance did make me cringe. Im all for showing passion but there is a line and his actions helped nobody and boy, is he going to suffer for it.

Ok slip was the wrong word to use. He was trying to plant his foot there to get his body in front of azp. There is no way he saw his foot and just trod on it on purpose. Like I said blame the sh*t officials
He went absolutely ballistic, he looked like he wanted to knock Mike Dean out. It was a real step up from Drogba's outburst.

Its no surprise when they have to compete with players cheating at every opportunity. The players need to take some blame for it, its nigh on impossible for a ref to know if a foul was a real one or its a dive.

BJD, Sorry mate, but I stand by my words. Even my brother came in saying the exact same thing this morning without a word said by me and he's a Gooner.
How on earth do you explain the number of incompetent TEAMS of officials at our matches lately? Not just a shoddy ref here and there or even just a shoddy linesman. But entire teams of shoddy officials all wearing headsets having poor games as a collective.
I have my theories but I am going to keep them to myself for the greater good and yes, I also stand by my comments that the 3 arseholes mentioned in my previous comment should be looked into for match fixing ie: Altering the final result of a match through decisions and actions of theirs during important games.

Well I respect the fact that you disagree without giving me grief for it. I don't expect many to agree with me here but I am definitely going to stick to my guns here. I have suspected this since Villa Park when Foy was assigned to us. I strongly suspect that Mike Riley hates Chelsea and is a Liverpool romanticist.
I hate how football is all about politics off field these days and long for a return of the days where it was a fair sport and everything was decided on the pitch amongst the players.

I have to say this season has been the worst ever for officiating, for the supposed best league in the world it's become an embarrassment and there's hardly a ref that isn't f**king up every couple of week and some are worse than others Foy for example. There should be heavy penalties for ref who f**k up in any game, either that of bring in extra officials such as those behind the goals on both sides of the post and give them the power to make decisions. NFL has loads of umpires and so does baseball, why should football be any different.

Agreed. I have never seen such a horrendous season of officiating in any sport. I too believe that referees should face heavy fines for poor calls that affect the result of a match and consistently poor performances should warrant being sacked and blacklisted from officiating.
I mean, there's no excuse. There were officials on most parts of the pitch with headsets. Furthermore, we should be using the technology to implement back room officials watching through the cameras. The cameras miss nothing.
Mike Riley has been a huge f**k up in charge this season, so at the very least, he should be unceremoniously sacked at the end of the season.

I do wonder why Mike Dean was given the match yesterday along with his assistant from Merseyside. Both may have no allegiance to Liverpool FC but locally would have been given grief if a decision they had given incorrectly had resulted in the title moving to the Bridge. This though was for the club to protest before the match took place officially if they had any doubts of impartiality and not in an after match interview by Jose.
On a wider note it would be interesting to know which clubs each referee declared an allegiance to. If they were a genuine fan of that club it is highly probable that not only would they be likely to favour that club but also sub consciously have malice towards their rivals. We do though have to trust the officials to be impartial the game depends on this.

It's another reason I'm more and more interested in Non-League football these days. The ref's f**k up too but there's not so much at stake and you haven't paid a weeks wages to get in either.
The AGAINST MODERN FOOTBALL campaign is already in full swing and unless the FA sort it out more and more fans will give up, that'll be giving up TV subscriptions which will really hurt.
Maybe the club owners should take a stance.

The inconsistency of the officiating is maddening. Some hand out cautions and call fouls at the drop of a hat, think Willian's sending off at Villa. Others will allow a more physical game and hold back on the cautions. The latter seemed to be the way Dean was calling it yesterday and I'm okay with that. Let 'em play. But if he's going to allow Johnson to stud Azpi in the chest and allow Larrson to barrel into Ramires in the box, he has to be consistent and he wasn't. He called the slightest of fouls on Matic to deny a goal and he called the joke of a foul on Azpi for the penalty. We weren't clinical enough on the day, but sh*t and inconsistent officiating surely played a big part in the outcome of the match.
