Do they call it "hockey" in Europe, or "field hockey"? To me, hockey is what they play on ice.

Hockey is on grass. The other kind has to be clearly specified as ice hockey.

sorry, I've just seen that come up on a new page - it was in answer to Phillip's query about hockey and ice hockey.

It is the opposite over her in North America. "Hockey" is ice hockey, and "Field hockey" is played on grass. Field hockey is extremely unpopular over here, by the way.

We call field hockey 'hockey' and ice hockey is ice hockey. In the Netherlands, (field) hockey is very popular to play, almost as popular in my area as football. But as a spectator sport it's way behind football in popularity.

That's because it is a foul game, played by girls who like hitting other girls on the ankles, and taught by nasty games teachers with more muscles than any woman should ever have.

I am off to the Olympics for th second time tonight, loving it The Olympic site and organisation (despite the rip off prices) is truly amazing.

However, going to see Japan vs Korea in Cardiff.. going to be odd.. for the bronze !

God knows what the chanting will be "Who ate all the dogs!" I supose.

I hate rhythmic gymnastics so much....sure they have talent, but I don't want to see people throwing around sticks, ribbons, balls or hoops.

I could see that in a playground.

It's a typical saturday night at my place

so gb dude Lutalo muhammad in taekwondo just lost 80 kg quarter final...why does that matter? well we boast the world no.1 in that class and for some reason didn;t pick him...there was huge controversy in build-up to the games, with the world no.1 (cook is his name) protesting the decision..>I have no idea what the justification was for it in the first place, but his replacement going out in the quarter finals says what a joke decision it was...apparently, to make matters worse, cook has beaten the guy Muhammad lost to on a number of occasions...bizarre and qustions are bound to be asked even more now

My guess is that, just like we do in the U.S., you have qualification bouts a month or so before the Olympics, and people are chosen based on those qualification bouts. That way, the person who is "on form" is chosen, and not the person with the better resume. Thus, i suppose that Muhammed defeated Cook in an Olympic qualification bout.

Is that what happened here?

Philip, in Sweden we refer to ice hockey as hockey and the weird thing played at the olympics as field hockey :p

Sweden advance to the olympic handball finals!!! Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeees

This is one of my favourite conspiracy pictures ever:

bizarrely Muhammad still got to fight for a medal in taekwondo despite losing his quarter final earlier and ended up with the bronze

I think it's because the guy he lost to got to the final. Not just the selection process that is f**ked in taekwondo.
