I have taken the bait....not posted for many years.

Let's put some of this into perspective....in retrospect, and where English football and European football was a the time.

I'll begin.....

Chelsea, from relegation in 88/89 and a 'save the bridge fund' with the stadium and clubs future in serious jeopardy from Marlour estates.

Ken Bates, a controversial figure, managed to secure the clubs existence, acquire the ground rites and launched the CPO scheme. The shed, the benches, and West stand were a crumbling reminder of where football stood at the time. (e.g Bradford, Hillsborough/Hysel) and Chelsea's past. We lived off beating Leeds in FA cup final before I was even born, for the whole of my early Chelsea supporting years. The clubs image 'Kings of the King's Road' and the playboy images of 60's and 70's were a distant, yet fond memory from where the club was . Due to eco-social changes, football was seen as a secondary, lower class sport, with terrace violence, and was treated with distain, tarnished and frowned upon by area's of news outlets during the 80's/90's .

Compared to Liverpool, Everton, Spurs, Arsenal, Man Utd, we never had one regular England international (Kerry Dixon aside) and the others we had we sold for sustainability, (Jason Cundy to Spurs was a deal that gave us some breathing space to survive - not sure how true that is, but as a club, we were on the brink!

English clubs were banned from European football, not that we were ever going to qualify......and the full members cup was established as a money spinner. Ironically, the first time I saw Chelsea play at the old Wembley, was in a final against Manchester City. (retrosectively, and ironically both clubs with very similar histories since then.....-) I'm not a gambling man but would offer ridiculous odds to anyone attending the game that day, who believed that either one or both would be title contenders English/European football from around 2004 onwards.. Let alone compete in a European cup final against each other!! Unimaginable!!

We were forced to sell our best player to rivals just to survive. Durie...Dorigo, Le Saux......even back to Ray Wilkins.......all went on to win trophies and titles elsewhere........

anyway.....moving on now the ground and clubs future were secured.

Matthew Harding, a life long fan, saw the potential, and offered a needed investment. Unfortunately we will never know how that chapter would have progressed. We were on the rise, had a few decent players and were able to compete, and were given a fighters chance.

We played Manchester Utd (in the earlier years of the Ferguson era) who had already won the league, in 1994 final, and lost 4-0 - although we got to Wembley, the gulf between the clubs was evident for all watching. United were double winners that season. The 1st in the clubs history. Chelsea supporters on the other hand, just had a day out at Wembley! We were just happy to go to the first cup final, in our lifetime or for the older supporters.....1st in in 24 years.

Around that time there was a shift....Our management had progressed to Glen Hoddle, a football legend, England international, who was towards the end of a commendable playing career, and became player manager. He brought a new mantra to English football, diets, warm up regimes, different training sessions, an education from a previous manager at Monaco, an unknown Arsene Wenger.

Premier league money was injected to the league, and spent wisely would, determine the future of clubs who were able to use it to their advantage. Rudd Gullitt.........signing for Chelsea.......I thought it was a joke...............Zola, Di Mattieo, Vialli, .......Le Bouf.....Petrescu,,,,Poyet,,,,,Mark Hughes...from surviving...we felt like something was being built.....the shed was being rebuillt...a new stand.....we may have a future after all??

Manchester United under Sir Alex were a formidable force. A manager backed by the club, trusted with recruitment, with a few trophies under his belt.....who reconstructed FA Cup winning, title winning, Double winning and Champions League winning sides on multiple occasions.

He'd seen of Dalgiesh's Blackburn,(they did win one) Keegans Newcastle.......David Oleary's attempts with Leeds, and was head to head with Arsen Wenger when he arrived at Arsenal. We'd have a go.........but were not real title contenders. Arsenal used to laugh at us, we didn't beat them for years.........until the Wayne Bridge goal.....

Arsenal used to taunt us with the chant 'You won the league in black and white. you won the league in black and white, you won the league in the 60's....you won the league in black and white'.....(black and white refers to old telly visions without colour)

Now the Manchester United Manager, their most successfull of all time, and Arsene Wenger, manager of the 'undefeatables' were up against a new challenge..........the rest is history.

Jose beat Ud on his first home game! installed a resilience I have never seen before from any previous Chelsea side. He took us to the next level...... fewest goals concede in premier league history. following season won the title again, and Drogba started giving Arsenal and Man Utd defenders nightmares before we even played them. (Senderos and Ferdinand interviews agree) We beat both in cup finals in Cardiff and the new Wembley. Terry and Lampard we already there, he brought a few players in but rinsed the best out of what was at his disposal.

Only 3 managers since the premier league was established have managed to retain a title.....Jose was one of them.... did it in his 1st and 2nd year!

Arsen wasn't!

It took Arsenal until last season to win their first title since Wenger, Mancheter Utd havn't won one since Fergie.

I'l leave it there.

Chelsea have won multiple trophies including x2 Champions leagues since Jose left. and more titles.........The core of his side went on .......FA cups and European trophies.....he built the winning mentality to get us to the next level. He upset the norm, two of the greatest premier league manages in Premier league history. FFS he came back and won it again..........!!!

He was backed........he broke up the elite domination of Arsenal/Man Utd............

Between him and Romans pocket........they changed the outlook and landscape of English and European football.

Financial fair play as only introduced when established clubs could not compete against any of it......

It was a great time to be a Chelsea fan........from 1994 to 2004........we arrived.........larger than life......Bates, and Roman contributed to it all financially.......But Jose broke the mold...........

He changed the club from an also ran to a pedigree.......and put us on the map. I'll remember him as the man who delivered the first title in my life time, something most Chelsea fans could never imagine though out the late 80's and 90's

Jose still playing the "everyone is against us card" after the defeat against Athletico at he weekend.

It's so tiresome.

 
I have got to say I saw it very different. I think there was a big chunk of emotional intelligence coming into play from Jose.

I know this sounds strange, I think though the fact that he is defending his position so many years later is in a backward way an apology. It is still clearly in his mind as one of the biggest episodes of his massive and varied career

What ever you might think of Jose, all those huge clubs he has worked with. Clearly is heart is with Chelsea 😎
