Good thing I've just come back from a holiday, at least now I can cope with Roar missing the final

How did Sydney FC do in the semi-final?

This from the BBC gossip page:

Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola could be in line to take over as coach of Sydney FC, who have sacked Terry Butcher. (Daily Mirror, Daily Mail)

Well, well, well.... That would make SydneyChelsea happy

Hello guys...

Been busy with work...and yes i am excited that franco could be involed.

We have just appointed Branko Culina as coach for the ACL campaign.

Butcher has been sacked and hanged after a pathetic semi-final performance- call me a sore loser but i don't want to go into that much.

It's not over yet!

ACL starts in two days. March the 7th...vs Shanghai Shenhua.

I spoke to new coach Branko Culina and strker Alex Brosque after a training game. Also spoke to Liverpool's new signing Dean Bouzanis, who I don't like, and will like less when he moves to Scouseland.

Shanghai 1-2 Sydney.

f**kING CLASS PERFORMANCE LADS!

I forgot to update it because I am still pinching myself. A top, top way to end Wednesday- Chelsea win in the morning and Sydney win in the night.

I can't believe it- first win by an Australian club in the Asian Champions' League, and moreover it was a performance by which we dominated them save the final 20 minutes. And it wasn't against a mickey-mouse side either, Shanghai were finalists in 2003 and were second in the Chinese Superliga.

Top, top game guys- let's keep it up.

In other A-League news, rather Valerie's side of the equation, Queensland Meow starlet Dario Vidosic has been offerred a trial with FC Nurenberg. Nurenberg already boast Australians Josh Kennedy, Dean Heffernan and Matthew Spiranovic. IMO Vidosic would be silly to move overseas now, he's just not good/experienced enough.

Oh f**k.

From our CEO...posted on our message board.

You may recall that we have signed a great young 'keeper to be Clint's no. 2 for the A-League season by the name of Dean Bouzanis. Dean has already been identified by Liverpool FC and we came to an arrangement with Liverpool where he was effectively loaned to us for most of next season before going back.

This was a great opportunity for us, and we are going to continue to try to work with Liverpool to make it a more formal arrangement, so hopefully Dean becomes one of many that come to us from an arrangement with Liverpool such as the one you have suggested.

Regards

George

f**k.

Will be re-thinking season ticket if that eventuates.

WE DID IT AGAIN

2-2 draw with Urawa Reds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We were 2-1 up at half-time but screwed it up...nevertheless we dominated them, an unbelievable result for Sydney. The newest club in Asia outclasses the biggest club in Asia.

It can get much worse than that. This from the BBC site:

Sydney FC say they have had discussions "at board level" about trying to lure Robbie Fowler to play in Australia (News of the World).

Enjoy!

SydneyChelsea - despite Fowler's disturbing background - surely you'd agree that he'll dominate in the A-league if he signs. A much better prospect than the senile Sheringham.

Interesting to see that Victory have signed former Chelsea favourite Joe Keenan. When he first started i thought he'd make it at the Bridge. Should be a very handy addition to our midfield stocks.

Of course, there's no doubting his quality. And unlike Hasselbaink or worse, Kluivert, he might even have a degree of professionalism down here- and yes, far more credible than Sheringham.

Keenan was a surprise and I think he'll do well with Melbourne, in fact due to our lack of lateral defenders at Sydney I am more than a tad envious. However this could mean Piorkowski could be on his way out, unless Matthew Kemp is willing to play the utility role. I think Melbourne are going to be using a 3-5-2 next season, because that would be the best way to accomodate Ljubo Milisevic.

-----------------------------Theoklitos

--------------------Leijer--Milisevic--Vargas

Kemp------------------------------------------------------Keenan

-------------------Muscat-New AM-Brebner

-------------Allsopp---------------------------------Thompson

Subs: Galekovic, Piorkowski, Pantelidis, Caceres, Broxham, Langerak

Formidable, but Melbourne need a new attacking midfielder, unless they are willing to trust young Leigh Broxham who is more in the mould of Brebner than Fred and won't provide the same type of dynamism. Melbourne are a bit thin at the back, with only Piorkowski and Muscat as potential subs in central defense. I'd expect Pantelidis and Kemp to be used as utility players to cover for both wing-backs and central midfield. Caceres, perhaps to play through the centre, or as an impact sub to add width, not too sure. It's early days yet.

It'll be interesting to see what Sydney do. Currently we go

------------------------Bolton

Zadkovich----Rudan---------Fyfe-----Topor-Stanley

---------------Talay----------Milligan

Carney----------------Corica---------------Brosque

-----------------------Zdrilic.

Subs: Bouzanis, Tsattlios, McFlynn, Spencer, Casey, Glavas, Enfield.

Personally, I feel that many of our squad are not good enough nor do we have adequate cover. Rudan is likely to retire after the ACL, and Topor-Stanley is already leaving. Noel Spencer is likely to follow suit. The formation we play is essentially a 4-3-3 with Brosque, Corica and Carney playing around or beyond Zdrilic. We are getting a marquee player, who is most likely a striker, and will probably partner rather than replace Zdrilic.

I must admit, i'm quite impressed with your analysis of our list. Spot on IMO. I think clearly we will sign an attacking midfielder, but i do have high hopes for Broxham. Showed a lot of potential, more than Sarkies did IMO on his two years on the list.

I think when you get your marquee striker, it would be best to relegate Zdrilic to the bench. He hasn't impressed me. Besides, with the next line in the midfield consisting of Carney, Corica and Broaque, you shouldn't be struggling for attacking options.

Good luck in the ACL. Quite happy to see the reds get knocked out

Time to bump this thread back up to the near surface!

So I'm pretty stoked. This is why:

[web]http://www.sydneyfc.com/default.aspx?s=sydfc_news_item&id=18698[/web]

We've also signed Ivan Necevski (brilliant goalkeeper), Ben Vidaic (young striker) and Adam Biddle (tricky young winger). And we are likely to lose David Carney to Sheffield United for a hefty transfer fee =)

Let the good times begin. Tommorow is our final pre-season cup game, against Newcastle Jets. The Jets have signed Mario Jardel as their marquee player for the season.
