Anyone reckon some games will be played in Saudi Arabia?
You wouldn't be surprised if Everton's appeal were successful so it all went under the rugWe’ll see how it fares if the FA decides to punish Man City for their breaking of the FFP rules. The FA has a tough decision to make, it could be the hand that kick starts the Superleague if they piss off City by punishing them or, in case of looking the other way, they could be committing suicide after they chose to punish Everton but do nothing to City for fear of them going off to the Superleague.
Sounds like something the FA would do, doesn't it.You wouldn't be surprised if Everton's appeal were successful so it all went under the rug![]()
Haven’t they done that with golf? What i think may be overlooked by those that think this may be a good idea, whether we like the existing Uefa structure that we have or not, it remains closed to the Saudi billions and as such there will remain a certain cachet to competing in our domestic leagues within an overall Uefa governance infrastructure.
Saudi already have more money, an unlimited amount, to take all of the main talented players and create such a massive financial imbalance that it could have a massive detrimental impact on domestic leagues. What prevents this for happening now, is the thoughts that players will have of missing out from competing int he most important leagues. Else Mbappe would already be gone, for instance.
A breakaway European Superleague will, at some point, expand to include Saudi and perhaps other emerging areas. When Saudi teams are competing in the same league structure as domestic and European teams what is there to stop them flooding the competition with money and effectively massively trumping anything anyone else can do.
I think it will have the opposite effect by creating an environment whereby the Saudi money will swamp all others.Haven’t they done that with golf?
In football, they’ve already paid good money to the corrupt UEFA and national FAs to host the Club World Cup and the World Cup played there during a period that suits them despite disrupting the national leagues. I’m not sure who will finance this new Superleague, but if it helps stop these ever tightening links between the official European football associations and the Saudi money, then it may not be that bad after all.
Would we join if they said "we will let the top 6 teams each year from england qualify, we will only admit clubs from Spain, Italy, Germany and Portugal, and you'll play fewer games than in the champs league?"This is being pushed by Italian and Spanish clubs that can't compete with the money in the Premier league, no one else will join it as it is.
I think the carrot to the American owners in the Premier league will to allow clubs to have ownership of streaming rights for matches, they seem determined to get more broadcasting money.Would we join if they said "we will let the top 6 teams each year from england qualify, we will only admit clubs from Spain, Italy, Germany and Portugal, and you'll play fewer games than in the champs league?"
I think that could make more money and be more appealing to every english club.
