Shocked there's not a thread on the Olympics yet, so here goes.

Phelps has taken his 19 gold medal, what a specimen!
I watched a little diving last night and a few other things.

Shame the time zone hurts us a bit, but there will be some things on in the evenings for us.

I have been watching the Olympic footie - some good stuff going on - saw Magic Mikel shake off two defenders & make a 50 yard run up field, only to mess up w/ his throughball to the attack ;) - Also Brazil's Women look like the real deal Brazil, while the Men still are trying to find the net - The bike races have shown some nice scenery & the action from the races have been epic - then you have the story of Yusra Mardini, a Syrian refugee that won her swim heat - unfortunately she didn't get into the medal phase still a good story

Buzzing for the Tom Daley show later. Literally no chance of winning but the media hype him up like it's already in the bag.

I'd like to buy a drink for whoever decided that beach volleyball should be an Olympic sport.

I was watching a boxing fight earlier and it was good. Two little guys dodging and jabbing so quickly I couldn't really tell who was winning, but the judges said the British guy won so that was nice. And I saw Robbie Fowler's cousin get knocked down by a Kazakh, so not a bad evening.

Watched the men's and women road race in the cycling.
Thankfully van Vleuten (the Belgian cyclist involved in a horrific crash in the women's 137km event) is out of intensive care with no apparent long term damage.

Oi, she's Dutch! The gold medal won by her compatriot only just made up for that terrible crash.

Enjoyed a lot of the judo and the diving, swimming and a little bit of the gymnastics last night.

Looking forward to the track and field.

Watched womens diving on sunday night, that was an experience. Watched mens diving last night and that was a different experience.

Both involve a 10 second dive, and a minute of filming them water themselves off in those outside showers.

Watched the gymnastics last night, gobsmacked at their ability
There is one gymnast less: Dutchman Yuri van Gelderen has been sent home after a night on the town. You're not allowed to do anything anymore as an Olympic athlete

Enjoyed the highlights of the 62kg weightlifting, delighted to see Figueroa get his gold in what will probably be his last Olympics.

On another note, I'd love ot see powerlifting introduced to the Olympics too, surely it has more merit than bloody skateboarding?

Current Gold Medal Tally:

  1. USA = 5
  2. China = 5
  3. Australia = 4
  4. Italy = 3
  5. Japan = 3
  6. Hungary = 3
  7. Russia = 2
  8. South Korea = 2
  9. Thailand = 2

Attendances in nearly every event have been terrible. The boxing, hockey, rugby sevens, swimming, diving, all at most a quarter full and most are virtually empty stadiums, four years ago every event was rammed full.
