How does everyone think this situation will, if at all, affect us?

"The US yesterday warned Putin of massive economic reprisals which could include blacklisting oligarchs who parade their wealth abroad but keep tight links to Putin at home.

A diplomatic source said: ‘Tycoons like Roman Abramovich and Alisher Usmanov are more than football moguls – they are close to Putin. Whose side are they on here?’"

Abramovich has nothing to do with the situation in Ukraine.

I see little to no consequence for Chelsea or Abramovich regardless of the outcome.

I agree with FC, its a stupid pointless story which is typical of the daily mail.

I'm not an expert but I disagree with the statement "he has nothing to do with it." There is collateral damage in war and if the powers that be do not wish to make it a actual physical war with boots on the ground, and instead go after Russia economically with sanctions? Then yes that very well might affect Abramovich. Again I am not an expert, but I do not see how either of you can categorically state it will not. I f**king hope not, but I do believe there is that possibility

What financial implications, hypothetically, do you envisage for Roman Abramovich to personally suffer as a consequence of any war that may or may not happen between Russia and the Ukraine?

Even if there is no physical war and Russia are expelled from the G8 how do you perceive that this might affect Abramovich's wealth?

I wouldn't worry about anything the Fail says. If a chicken that once belonged to a guy who is second cousins with a guy who met Roman Abramovich in a bar caused a bird flu outbreak, the Fail would blame Roman and Chelsea ;)

Do the DM realize that Russia and Abramovich are different things?

It will affect Abramovich in exactly the same way that Bernie Ecclestone was affected when we went into Afghanistan...imo

It wasn't what the daily mail said. I just used that as an example. I was already curious due to Abramovich's, at least perceived close relationship with Putin. From a financial standpoint it seems that Abramovich's owns Millhouse LLC, which manages his assets. They are based in Moscow since 2006. Sanctions might have an effect in that case. However after the sale of his shares in Sibneft in 2005, most of his assets are now abroad. Which is good.

Millhouse LLC holdings

Evraz Group S.A., 36 per cent (steel, mining, coal and vanadium businesses in Russia, the United States, Canada, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Italy and South Africa. Evraz produced 15.3 m tonnes of steel in 2009 and ranks 15th among global steel producers in terms of output. Evraz owns Carbofer, one of Russia’s biggest distribution networks for steel sales);

– Bonds (subordinated bonds) in Irish Nationwide Building Society (INBS), undisclosed value;

– Channel One OJSC, 24 per cent;

– Courier Publishing House (magazines about alcohol), 60 per cent;

– The meat-producing assets of the Prodo group of companies, stake unknown;

– Highland Gold Mining (HGM), 31 per cent;

– Pharmstandard pharmaceutical producer, approximately 30 per cent;

– The Balchug Plaza office complex, the Krylatsky Hills business park, land plots and other real estate in Moscow and the Moscow region with total value of approximately 30 billion roubles;

– The Snegiri development company, 16 per cent;

– Canada’s Kinross Gold, 1.5 per cent (received in a swap for the sale of gold fields in Chukotka);

– Mangazey LLC, Severo-Vosctochnaya GGK LLC, Klen LLC and Nedra Severa LLC, which won auctions in November 2010 for the right to develop four fields in Chukotka with total resources of 185 tonnes of gold and approximately 2,000 tonnes of silver.

I do not hold a PHD in Political Science nor am I an economist. So I cannot say financially how this situation may affect Abramovich. At the very least this situation has the potential to generate alot of ill will towards Abramovich in the US and UK, being viewed as so close to Putin. I am not scaremongering or trolling I just feel like it is a valid discussion. Hopefully the entire situation blows over anyway although its not looking too great.

Hopefully FFP will help Chelsea retain financial stablity, and while I take your point, I think Abramovich has already generated plenty of ill will in this country.

Says a lot about this country when all he's done is invest in it.

And for a start, share prices in Russia have fallen over 9%. I can guarantee you some of Abramovich's holdings included. The rouble is at its lowest point ever I believe. And the situation has the potential to get far far worse. Now nothing may happen. But to put your head in the sand and say nothing can happen? Without actually being qualified through research or experience to categorically state that, even if correct, to just assume is plain ignorant.

Probably still more qualified than the people who write for the Daily Mail.

The UK is inherently racist, no matter how much it tries to say otherwise.

Always said it and always will.

All of these media and political 'witch hunts' against UKIP (to use one example) are a cover to make it seem as though the establishment and society is not as morally bankrupt as them.

I mean; How dare wealthy foreign nationals who have earned their fortunes decide to invest in the glorious United Kingdom (for how much longer though? over to you Scotland) when we have legions of innovative and hard-working businessmen willing to do the same,

... Oh wait, we don't. We expect the world to come to us and then bitch like petulant children when they do.

Every nation is inherently racist, I watched a programme about immigration the other day filmed in London, most of the people who were moaning about immigration were first second or third generation immigrants.

Every nation has an element of Xenophobia I think, slightly different to racism

Strange post from inzangi. What the f**k are you talking about. Have you got any idea of our immigration figures. We must be the least racist country in the world. But i have to admit we have our fair share of foreign piss takers maybe someone like yourself who see no problem slagging my country off.
