Does sport matter?

Sorry to impinge. I am a Brentford supporter.

Some of you may be familiar with Griffin Park, our home ground. Maybe because of last season's FA Cup, maybe because you pass it on the M4, or maybe because of the trivia question about which is the only ground which has a pub on all four corners (for the avoidance of doiubt, they are the Princess Royal, the Griffin, the Royal Oak and the New Inn).

Anyway, Griffin Park is a dump (to Brentford fans, a lovable dump but a dump nonetheless),

We have the opportunity to move a few hundred yards away, to a brownfields site. After so many years, the local council have finally given their approval for the project, However, it still needs the approval of the Mayor of London and the relevant secretary of state in order to get the final go-ahead.

As ever in London, there are sport-hating nimbys raising objections. They have raised a petition (containing many untruths). I would like to counter that. This is not about Brentford Football Club, nor about football. It is about sport in general and most particularly about sport in the community.

My club will never compete in the Champions League,It does provide help to the community.
