The remarks after the Southampton game that led to Jose being fined £50,000 are an opportunity for Jose to reappraise his public behaviour. On that occasion, instead of his rant, he could have said that in his opinion the incident with the goalkeeper looked to him like a penalty, but that the decision lies with the referee. He could also have acknowledged that the opponents had two penalty appeals denied but again that it was the referee's decision. He would have done far better to accept that on the day, the team that won 3-1 were the better side on the day but that he knew his players were working hard to improve results. More humility wouldn't do any harm at all but so far he seems determined to carry on digging his hole. Leaving the club isn't the only option because he has the choice to conduct himself differently and win back the support he may have lost.
