  1. The Watford owners philosophy is to buy young, when other teams won't take the risk, and sell when their value is up. They bought Vydra for 3 million when he was 17 playing for Banik Okstrava. Now he'll go for 15+. Same goes for Alexis Sanchez. As long as they know value will increase, there isn't really a limit on how much we can spend (within reason). As for the loan issue, it's a bit of a misunderstanding. All Watford players are Watford players. They came on loan for two reasons: -To try before you buy, with an option to purchase on all players. - We got taken over a few days before deadline day, it was more practical to loan the players rather than completely change players registration.
  2. Have it on good authority that, if we were to get promoted, we would line up a bid anywhere between 8-10 million for Chalobah. I can only assume the club are aware that Chalobah has loved his time here, and feel that if any club is going to be tempted to part with their brightest young star, it would be Chelsea. I can't see anything happening, personally, but I think it is worth testing the waters on it.
  3. Totally gutted, mainly in the knowledge that we go into the playoffs with a severely depleted squad and probably fairly low morale. It will be to the full credit of Zola if he lifts the team now, as the semi-final is only on Thursday. Not long to pick the team up. It was just one off those days you get with football. Denied a certain penalty (happens often, must be the continental style at Watford), lost two goalkeepers and had a key player sent off. Leeds had nothing to play for but seemed determined to help their rivals Hull go up. Full blooded tackles and outstanding saves are not a hallmark of a team thinking of their holidays. Thank you all for showing such an interest. With Zola and Nath it feels like we've doubled our fanbase with Chelsea support!
  4. Here we are then! Final day of the season. All to play for and nothing to lose. If you guys fancy watching Nathaniel's (potentially) final game for Watford, it will be shown on red button on sky sports 2 at 12.30. Whilst staying in the championship wouldn't be a disaster as it is for more of the cash happy teams in the Championship, the chance to keep players like Vydra and Chalobah in the EPL is worth playing for. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/watford/10036933/Nathaniel-Chalobah-desperate-to-secure-promotion-with-Watford.html
  5. Watford-Wolves will be shown at 7:30pm this Friday on Sky Sports 2. Chalobah will be certain to start, and with 2nd place playing 22nd, should be a good opportunity for him to shine.
  6. http://www.skysports.com/video/inline/0,,16428_8512815,00.html A tidy little goal. The Arsenal story sounds like journalist bollocks. I like to think that if a player is attracting journalist bollocks, they're doing something right.
  7. I can confirm Chalobah will be staying for the rest of the season. Good news for all involved.
  8. Also, cracking selection of Smileys you have on this board!
  9. I really hope Zola can sort a loan extension, they seem to have a good working relationship. I remember after his volley against Burnley he went straight to Gianfranco and hugged him. With him we can make a really strong promotion push. I was half expecting him to have a shocker in front of the camera and leave you guys scratching your heads over what I was so excited about! Glad he produced the goods. Good luck with the season, hope you warm to Benitez because I like the guy. Maybe see you in the Premier League next year!
  10. If I were a manager, I'd struggle to put him anywhere else, don't know how he ended up at RB! At Watford we play 3-5-2 where he plays with Hogg at DM. Hogg lies very deep so Chalobah does have a licence to push further up than he may have done in the past. It's working very well for him.
  11. Yeah he's spent all his time at defensive mid. I'm sure he could do a decent job at centre back with his height, but he's not quite robust enough at his age for that position. Plus it would be a huge waste of his technical ability, definately a natural box to box midfielder.
  12. Hi guys, Watford fan in peace here to give you all an update on how Nate is getting on in Hertfordshire. My word what a talented lad he is! From hearing about his reputation when we first got him, I expected an exciting but very raw kid, who could put in a decent shift once in a while. I couldn't have expected what we've been seeing at Vicarage Road. The Championship is a difficult league to play in: often scrappy, rough around the edges and unglamourous, but always fiercely competitive. Somehow an 18 year old with no senior experience has become our key player, as composed and technical on the ball as any player in his peak. On saturday against forest I lost count of the number of times he picked up the ball, crowded by opposition before skipping into miles of space and picking out a player with a sniper's accuracy. He made no mistakes and controlled the midfield single handedly. This wasn't a flash in the pan performance either, he does it robotically, week in week out. So, many of us Watford fans are wondering what are chances are of keeping him at the club beyond January when he's due to return? With our team pushing for the play off places he would surely have more to gain from playing every weekend in a strong championship team. You can see him in action this saturday at 5.20 on Sky Sports 2. Good luck with the season.
