Welcome Emerson Palmieri!

Always makes me laugh when people call players greedy for not lowering their wages to leave a club. Wonder how many of us would move jobs to earn less money. Footballers have a very short career, may as well make the most money as you can from it.

Nevertheless, Emerson is gone now. Anyone know what the transfer fee was?
Yep and most careers are over by their early 30's and then they normally need to find another line of work they can't all be pundits or coaches.

A rubbish defender, surprisingly competent further forward. He did score that goal against Atlético(?) in the CL run too. Also he looks a lot like a friend of mine that I used to go to games to which was always a source of amusement.

Best of luck to him. £11m seems like a pretty decent fee. Good move for both sides I think (apart from West Ham but I don't care about them).

I quite like him. Never as bad as many people think, like many other players that have come and gone over the years he was never given a decent run of games where he could prove his worth.  West Ham have picked up themselves a bargain player as they will start to see when he begins to play on a regular basis.  You don't get into the Italian National team by being rubbish and a Brazilian.  Look at the talent we have let slip through our fingers over the years because one manager or another didn't fancy them. I think Palmieri falls into that category.

That does seem to apply to a phenomenal number of players we have signed. Makes you wonder who scouted them and who decided to sign them. But I guess it’s just part of modern football. Dredging for players for strength in depth and perhaps fear of missing out.

I suspect Anthony Gordon will join these ranks if we do sign him.

Ozil was on 350,000 a week at Arsenal. After not playing under Arteta he earned 17.3 million pound. Don’t think he needs to become a pundit or coach!

I’m always flummoxed when people refer to footballers having short careers in terms of earnings. Imagine Ronaldo in your local B&Q telling you where to find u-bends.

As if I don't hate DIY stores enough!

In the old days, former footballlers tended to open a corner shop to sell cigarettes and magazines (sounds like a Simon & Garfunkel song). Then came a period when the flashier ones launched a clothing brand, doomed to fail. I have no idea what the preferred line of work is now, when it isn't coaching or punditry. Doing nothing in Dubai perhaps?

Dunno about that, pretty sure I've seen Glen Johnson in my local B&Q before.

Let's also not forget they won't be living next door to you nor me as they need security and that is expensive it becomes with being high profile.

A lot of them might be good footballers yet might be pretty ignorant in other things.

Ozil will probably be ok as expect he would have got good advice, yet what about the likes of the players from the British working class?

Of course even with Ozil he might attract pressure from other places,  Erdogan might lean on him to make donations to charitable cause and don't forget ex-wives and buying family members property too.

When you put it like that, poor poor footballers. Perhaps we should set up a charity to help them cope with arranging installation of a burglar alarm.

I simply never thought about how awful it must be to be a multimillionaire footballer in your 30's and then have to cope with the possibility of one day not being quite as wealthy, largely down to stupidity and mismanagement of their fortune. They need our love and support.

The bold part of your post is a bit of a head scratcher to me. Why would players from the British working class not get good advice? I'm assuming most of them, in fact of all high earning athletes and artists from all walks of life, have a financial advisor or at the very least an enthousiastic bank manager. There may be a few players who overestimate their own prowess on the investment market (or are downright stupid), or follow unwise or dodgy advise, but I doubt that has got anything to do with their class, as you put it.

Well previous examples Gazza, Dalian Atkinson, Kerry Dixon.

Joe Cole is now a pundit has he listened to financial advisers not sure yet it will be a while before we know as they don't go into trouble immediately it is normally 10-20 years down the line.

Ronaldo is in a small subset of GOATs unless they have messy divorces will normally be in another class.

I really have no idea what your point is. You pull 3 names out of thin air, presumably because they don't/didn't do well after retiring. Do they support your assumption that British players from the working class don't get good financial advice? At best it's random and anecdotal. And what the hell has Joe Cole to do with it?

I’ve read some f**ked up sh*t on this forum, I’ve even contributed some f**ked up sh*t on this forum, but by Christ, you’ve gone into uncharted territory.

These people you’re so worried for are taking home at the absolute least 50k a week. I earn much less than that in one year. f**k THEM AND THEIR STUPIDITY. If they can’t make between 50k and 350k a week for over 20 years to keep them out of destitution until retirement, then they deserve to die a horrible death in a damp infested council flat.

You can only be on a wind up, completely deranged or a WAG?

Farewell.

One good memory of him is his performance in the 2019 Europa League Final. Played well that night and assisted Giroud.
