Dan Petrescu back at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea hero returns to learn from Carlo Ancelotti

Dan Petrescu is returning to Chelsea to study Carlo Ancelotti's methods.

The former Stamford Bridge full back has just won promotion to the Russian Premier League in charge of Kuban Krasnodar and will spend the winter break on placements at Chelsea and Real Madrid.

'I'll spend a fortnight at Chelsea training and then 10 days at the Real Madrid training centre, observing as much as I can,' said the 42-year-old Romanian. 'I understand that my wife won't be very happy, but even during the holidays I have to work.'

Petrescu is a cult figure in west London after joining Chelsea from Sheffield Wednesday in 1995 and spending five years at Stamford Bridge.

He won the FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Cup-Winners' Cup and Super Cup with Chelsea and later impressed as manager of Romanian side Unirea before leaving for ambitious Kuban.
