No English players=No title

Featured Replies

Simple question, but do you have to have English players,(a 'core' if you like),to win the English Premier League?.

I suppose the question could be relevant to any domestic league in the world, but it seams that history shows that the club with the right 'core' of English players go on to win the most Premier League titles.

It also may explain why the arse have failed to do so for so many seasons, which is ironic when you think Wenger would have learnt so much from his early years in the Premier League.

Also it might explain manure & the dippers recent signings,an eye on domestic league success first & foremost perhaps?.

As our English core players start to age,do we have to keep more of an eye on English based talent in future?.

I don't think so - if you're good enough to play in the Premiership, with the increased physicality and everything that goes with it, then I don't think it matters where you're from. I think that you need a good core of players that are all on the same page, but in my opinion nationality doesn't really have anything to do with it.

I don't buy that. I think Arse have not won anything simply because since Vieira left and Henry gradually became more ineffectual and soon after left, there has been nothing to fear about Arsenal. Apart from RVP to an extent, there is no Arsenal player I think of and think "sh*t, we're gonna have to look out for him or we're in trouble".

When most teams think of United they think of Rooney, Vidic, Ferdinand, Nani, Valencia and Hernandez and the threat they pose. Players from all sorts of positions. With Chelsea they probably think of Cech, JT, Ashley Cole, Lampard, Drogba, Torres etc. Half the battle is won before you step on the pitch IMO. I think last season because all the top teams were weaker (because of the World Cup) it enabled the other teams to all lose the script and have a go.
