what do we make of this then?

I think it's a good thing.

terry is the best in the world, and with a player like him, who has never relied on great physical qualities, it would be foolish to write him off. I would be really surprised if he wasn't still performing at a high level the season after next (at least).

with lamps it is hard to say what he might offer this season and beyond. I assumed he'd leave / retire after this season but players like seedorf, scholes, giggs et al show that he still could contribute given his fitness. I do think he'll need to continue to adapt. maybe he'll lose the capacity to play from box to box, maybe in the future he'll become an experienced head who comes off the bench to close games out or as an auxiliary goal threat when we're chasing it.

I do think we'll need a new first choice high quality central midfielder though. possibly as early as this summer. maybe josh is the player who will step up, maybe de bruyne. who knows? I wish we were in the running for modric, I think he (or a player like that) is what we need more than hulk.
