g3.7 reacted to PloKoon13 in Jose Mourinho threadDon't let @g3.7 hear you say that!
To be fair to him (Ronay), while he does come across as quite insufferable, he does have his moments.

g3.7 reacted to Liam in Chelsea vs Fulham (PL) Thurs 26th Dec 24 15:00 GMTMy 60th birthday today. I'm only a young lad compared to @WeatherMan 😀. My family got me Chelsea v Liverpool tickets - what a prressie.
Traditionally we do well on 26th December so here's hoping for a presesnt from Maresca and the lads.

g3.7 reacted to SydneyChelsea in Enzo Fernandez - Officially a Blue! The difference is starting/recieving position. Pochettino had Fernandez recieving the ball high up the field under pressure, with a massive gap to Caicedo and the defence, whereas Maresca has Fernandez starting deep, roaming, and crucially recieving the ball on the run. The biggest change Maresca has made is telling Fernandez to actually get into the box and getting off his arse to run. Maresca was this exact same sort of player.
Fernandez' goal on the weekend, and his almost-assist to Palmer in the first half, are the perfect illustrations of what his role should be.

g3.7 reacted to Bluelion7 in Jadon SanchoI really, really don’t think there are “United ways”. Other players complained about the downright rude treatment Sancho received from ETH. He probably didn’t handle it well.
But could we be trying to save him blushes? That’s absolutely a possibility. Everyone, Chelsea, Sancho, and the press included, need to be honest about what Sancho is and what he isn’t. He’s a technically skilled and crafty player who is not a great athlete . We play a team with a low block and one player up top to counter? Sancho would be extremely useful. His interplay with overlapping players and finding ways to unlock tight defenses is great.
If you play a team with pace on the outside that attacks back with a high line and we are going to have mostly isolated wingers? Sancho probably isn’t the best choice.
It’s really not complicated, but United was seemingly confused he wasn’t Ronaldo after he showed up at their camp. Then they blamed him for it. Then they harassed him for being “lazy” … like he was choosing not to be as fast as someone like Mudryk. That’s a sign their front office was bad (and it was), not a real reflection on Sancho.
Our people have known Sancho since he was a kid. They know what he is good at and what he isn’t, and when/how to use him. As long as his cost reflects situational use and people are honest and ok with it.. no issue.

g3.7 reacted to Nibs in Nicolas Jackson - strikerI'm not a Jackson hater like our Jim, but I am aware of his limitations (and there are plenty).
He has improved but as a striker, he is way off a player like Isak. You say Jackson is fundamental to how we play, but I have to disagree. Put any striker worth their salt in his place and we probably improve. We certainly didn't miss him last night and should have got close to double figures.
That said, no doubt he will start against Spurs on Sunday and I hope he repeats his feat of last season (possibly the luckiest hat-trick I have ever seen!)

g3.7 reacted to SydneyChelsea in BlueCo buy Chelsea FCWhy should they deserve credit for doing the bare minimum - addressing a problem of their own making?
No one asked for the "reorganisation". The slightest bit of critical thinking reveals that the owners are basically doing exactly what the club were doing before, just with different people and a different level of success. The tale in the media and parrotted by idiots, that Chelsea prior to Clearlake was "not a well-run club", is nonsense and is targeted at bringing in investment riches for the club's current owners.
This is not some new tale or unique methodology. As I've said before this sort of investment and 'tactic' has been used the last 20 years to inflate the value of companies and then sell them when markets or governments eventually regulate. Just like Uber, Netflix, Airbnb etc. claimed they were 'disruptors' due to having inflated share values despite being still grossly unprofitable. We've seen it all before - come in, change for the sake of change, spend lots of money and make sure you get some friendly media on board.
If authorities ever get their sh*t together on FFP/PSR, or Man City get their way by including shareholder loans in the APT rules, we are f**ked.
Anyway, the real problem isn't these owners. For the time being at least our interests as fans, and theirs, are aligned. Whatever issues we seen so far will pale in comparison to when the current owners' sell their stake to another investor left holding the bag.
-
g3.7 reacted to SydneyChelsea in BlueCo buy Chelsea FCThere is no 'new' way. The owners have done some good things, some atrocious things, but let's not pretend they are doing anything new, different or unique. That's just nonsense PR. The owners bought a club, kicked out the previous staff and players, and brought in new ones. That is a takeover tale as old as time and we don't need to give people credit for doing business as usual.
Objectively we were a top 4 club who has spent 2 years nowhere near that level, and the owners have spent almost all their funds just to bring usm, at a generous best, on parity with where we were in 2021.
We've got a good coach in Maresca, but we also lost a truly top-tier one in Thomas Tuchel. We have Cole Palmer but we've also lost many great players (especially defenders) along the way. That's just normal ups and downs of any squad, nothing special.
-
Exactly this .....
There were mixed feelings on Maresca's tactics at Leicester. We all knew what he was trying to do, the players bought into it and it worked most of the time. However, because some of our players weren't good enough to play like that against the better teams, on occasion it led to too much tippy tappy football in defence with mistakes leading to goals against, together with very slow tedious build up in attack leading to nothing. It felt like there wasn't a plan B to change things mid game but TBF it was probably due to not having the right players to bring on. We definitely need a rebuild.
From what I've seen of your games it looks like he does have tactical flexibility now he has a wealth of players to choose from.
Yep, he got us up which was what mattered but wouldn't have been able to strengthen the team sufficiently to make it work for us in the Prem. Good luck to him though, it looks like he is going to be a top manager.
With regards to KDH, he was born and bred in Leicestershire, about 3 miles from where I grew up. He came through our academy and is a Fox through and through really, I think he would have been happy to stay with us but the Financial Unfair Play rules mean that smaller clubs like us have to sell our best home grown talent to balance the books. He may not have the silky skills of some of your other options but he will always put a shift in and will always give 100%. I'm sure he'll develop with better players around him and will do a good job for you, probably mostly in your games in Europe where you need a battler in midfield. Look after him please, all true Foxes will wish him well on his big break, just like we always respected the amazing Kante who worked his socks off for us right to the end (and unlike Fofana who pretty much downed tools to force his move through - no respect due there I'm afraid)
Many of us have concerns about Nistelroy with his lack of Prem in management experience but it isn't working out too shoddy for Maresca and at least he has something to prove & should command respect with players and fans. Unlike Cooper who I do feel a bit sorry for but was always going to have a struggle to convince a big part of our fan base due to his Forest connections (something that didn't really bother those of us who can remember the success we had with Martin O'Neill and Captain Morgan, both ex Forest).
Good luck in your quest for top 4, looking good so far. Look after our KDH 👍

g3.7 reacted to Nibs in Super Frank LampardSeems Lamps has been appointed Coventry coach - wish him all the best.
Hope he does well there and kicks-on again. If he fails, that will probably be his last appointment. Looks like Adi Viveash has left Coventry which is a shame as he's always done so well with the youngsters. I expect Joe Edwards will join Lamps.

g3.7 got a reaction from Mod in Enzo Maresca - Chelsea "Head Coach" *Official NOW SACKED*He's doing a good job and has surprised me too. Don't get this pochettino momentum thing at all - to me we play very differently to the way we did last season.
It's hard to compare them because pochettino had a harder job with the injuries and having all of these players new to the club after a disastrous season. But if we were to look purely at the football, I'd say it's night and day. IMO you could probably name 3 of our worst 5 performances in the last 20 years from last season. Even our run of good form at the end didn't pass the eye test to me. Absolutely destroyed at arsenal, a farcical draw against 10 men at Sheffield United. Yeah we edged out some better results but it was all off the cuff from a team pressing incredibly aggressively and at the same time quite ineffectively.
I've definitely got a few quibbles or queries about some of marescas decisions (most identified by others), but stepping back, we look convincingly like a good (but not great) team with a clear and working style of play. That is definitely progress given how far backwards the ownership has taken us.

g3.7 reacted to dkw in Enzo Maresca - Chelsea "Head Coach" *Official NOW SACKED*This for me is the biggest difference, it was nearly impossible trying to figure out what Poch was trying to do at times, especially defensively. There was no pattern of play at all, just mostly off the cuff stuff.

g3.7 reacted to dkw in Enzo Maresca - Chelsea "Head Coach" *Official NOW SACKED*Im surprised to see so many think hes not doing much, considering the amount of people who though he had no chance at the start of the season due to the "shambolic squad" he had.
-
g3.7 reacted to dkw in Enzo Maresca - Chelsea "Head Coach" *Official NOW SACKED*Again, you see things as far too black and white, this isn't how things work. The vast majority of clubs squad building are ran as a committee, managers, coaches, DF's, even medical staff all have input. The final say is likely down to one, maybe 2 people, but it isn't just them foisting players on coaches.
There obviously will be exceptions, but theh are on the minority.

g3.7 reacted to just in Another Winger! - Noni MaduekeLike you I hate that people are picking on him and Jackson. The are both contributing massively. Noni and Palmer are cementing a real partnership.
Im sure you will agree that Noni is a player, like Jackson, that makes things happen. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad. But he makes things happen.

g3.7 got a reaction from The Rising Sun in Axel Disasi *Official*This sterling thing is another good example of the club being badly run above him.
Clearly the club have decided he isn't worth his wages, and that is actually totally fair enough.
What is far from ideal is that it's obvious that they've made this call very late. So now you have a player who expected to be involved this season (leaving aside his statement and the timing of it, which we can all agree wasn't right) being told just before the season by the coach he isn't in his plans shortly after the same coach has told him he would be.
You have a coach who was planning his season with the player expected to be part of that, and acting accordingly.
Then, probably late last week someone tells the coach that actually we want to get rid because he is costing us too much each week - no doubt the same reason our best keeper, kepa, is persona non grata.
But the decision with kepa was obviously taken before maresca even was appointed (as it should have been), because it's a financial decision not a sporting one.
Why then have the sporting directors taken this decision so late in the day, and why are they forcing their own newly appointed head coach to deal with the problems they have created? Why make him say the decision is a sporting one, which only undermines his credibility when you compare sterling (who has played well under a stylistically similar coach) to mudryk who appears to be still in the process of learning some of the basics?
It's like why would you hire graham potter, then hire a completely different type of manager in pochettino, only to swing back to maresca?
What is the point of having these guys running the club if they can't do the absolute basics of coach and squad recruitment?

g3.7 got a reaction from Frankie8Lampard in BlueCo buy Chelsea FCRemember: every decision the club has taken has been signed off by both boehly and clearlake.
We'll get a lot of: "I didn't want to sack tuchel and hire potter, but I am the guy who wanted palmer" disseminated through their chosen media mouthpieces.
The truth is this, they are jointly responsible for taking the club backwards.
