FA Cup

Sutton United v Burgess Hill Town

Having negotiated one tricky hurdle away to FC Romania in the previous round, Sutton face another in the 3rd qualifying round of the FA Cup tomorrow when they entertain Burgess Hill Town, who are already threatening to turn Division One South of the Ryman League in to a procession. Ten points clear at the top of the table, they are unbeaten competitively so far this season and are bringing a run of twelve consecutive league and cup victories to Gander Green Lane, a run which began with a victory against Eastbourne Town in the preliminary round of the FA Cup at the end of August. They have subsequently knocked out Croydon and Fleet Town, and most recently progressed in the Robert Dyas Isthmian League Cup on Tuesday away to Redhill. The danger men look likely to be experienced former Horsham and Whitehawk striker Pat Harding, leading scorer in each of his four seasons with Burgess Hill, and youth team product Greg Luer, who scored twice at Fleet and also hit both goals in last week's impressive win at Guernsey.

Sutton take a good recent FA Cup record in to the game, having reached the first round in four of the six seasons in which Paul Doswell has been manager, and overcame Sussex opposition at this stage last season when Jamie Slabber's goal was enough to win at Lewes. Burgess Hill are looking to equal their best FA Cup performance, which came in 1999 when they reached the 4th qualifying round and lost to Hereford.

Not sure why you've joined to post this article. I will say though the FA Cup is a special trophy to myself...like many others here it was the first trophy we had seen our team win. It would be nice if maybe the Sutton/Burgess Hill connection could be seen to the end as a ladder to the final.
