SydneyChelsea
The 2006 candidates for POTY were Ronaldinho, Lampard, and Gerrard. That season(05/06)... Ronaldinho: 25 goals, 17 assists (best ever season return) Lampard: 20 goals, 10 assists- (second best ever season return) Gerrard: 23 goals, 11 assists (best ever season return) Last season(06/07)... Ronaldinho- 23 goals, 10 assists. (second best ever season return) Lampard- 23 goals, 16 assists. (= best ever season return) Gerrard- 14 goals, 10 assists. (third best return ever) Two of those have been variously described as "over the hill", "fat", and "past it"- what does that make the other one? Also, is Ronaldinho really 'past it'? 23 goals in a "bad" season- it seems to me that people have unrealistic expectations, the same criticism that we level at Lampard. Ronaldinho is two years younger.
