I'm fairly new to this forum and sometimes wonder what sort of future Chelsea may have. The things I understand regarding Chelsea are as follows:- 1) Chelsea are 1 of the top 4 London Clubs. The others are Arsenal, Tottenham and West Ham. 2) Chelsea and Arsenal are the 2 top clubs in London, with Tottenham and West Ham in the shadows. Despite this, Tottenham managed to avoid a long trophy drought by winning the FA Cup in 1991 and League Cups in 1999 and 2008. West Ham on the other hand are just like Manchester City, in that both West Ham and Manchester City have sky blue in their clubs colours and an embarrassment to their respective cities of London and Manchester for over 30 years. 3) Chelsea Titles. Chelsea currently have 4 titles unfortunately, this tallies with Manchester City also, but at least when Chelsea got promoted in 1989 the same year as Manchester City, Chelsea have remained established ever since, whereas Manchester City are just a comedy club/yo yo club. 4)Furthermore regarding trophy droughting, as in a way, this is going to be the monkey on the back of any football team serious about challenging for honours. In the South East, there has been the 3 London clubs Chelsea (who had a brief period between 1997-2000 and went from strength to strength since 2004), Arsenal (for nearly 30 years despite the difficulties between 2005-2014), Tottenham (Cup Successes mentioned above in point 2.) and West Ham, they have an extremely long drought, and if they're not careful, the London club QPR could easily overtake them if QPR's owners are ambitious enough to get a new stadium in West London and challenging for honours. Also in the South East, Portsmouth in Hampshire had their cup success in 2008, which was brief. The North West, there has been the 2 Manchester clubs and 2 Liverpool clubs, neither of which have a 25-30+ year drought. The Midlands, there is Aston Villa (League Cups in both 1994 and 1996), Nottingham Forest (League Cups in both 1989 and 1990), Leicester City (League Cups In 1997 and 2000) and Birmingham City (League Cup in 2011). If a club like Aston Villa was to re-emerge or another Midlands or Northern team, Chelsea could find themselves left behind with the likes of Tottenham and West Ham to contend with. Then there's the South West. I don't honestly think clubs such as Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday, Sunderland, Middlesbrough and Newcastle are any different from the likes of Bristol Rovers, Bristol City, Plymouth Argyle, Exeter City and Bath City/Salisbury City - It's just England's North-South divide unfortunately, where it's mostly been Northern and Midlands clubs achieving most of the success in English football at the top level. I've always liked Chelsea and Arsenal, they both play football the way it should be played because they both play to win. Then there was Manchester United who knocked the disgraceful Liverpool off their perch after Heysel in 1985, over the last 20 years, where Heysel affected over a dozen English football clubs until 1990/1991.
