Palace fan in peace and all that jazz...
First off thanks for the general praise of Palace. Allow me to repay you by way of confirm a few thinsg for you regarding Bamford's loan with us.
I would say that the main issues for those against Bamford's loan is some will be a bit disappointed as they were hoping for Remy and that some see it as developing another teams player whilst stunting the growth of our own. There may be a little bit of hate because it's Chelsea, but it would be the same if we had a loan from either of the Manchester teams. In fact a Chelsea youth would be better received than a Manchester youth as at least you're not as northern.
Me, I never expected us to get Remy and I see the massive benefits a successful loan period of Bamford would be for Palace. In the short term, he could help us survive another season, more long term would be giving us a good reputation for blooding youngsters in the PL means better loan deals of Top 4 hot prospects and better youth purchases when competing for signitures against the likes of Wet Spam and Spurs.
I think if we gave Sonogo 407 mins over half a season in all competitions (which included 3 starts) whilst fighting a relegation battle for him to score 1 goal (which had it not taken a deflection would have gone wide anyway), then we can give Bamford at least double that.
Realistically, for the loan striker role he only really has Murray ahead of him and Murray is 31 and spent most of our fiorst 2 season in the PL recovering from aninjury sustained in the play-off semi final.
Bamford and Campbell (and even Wickham if he comes) will all be on the same level. I think we will try to sell or loan out Campbell anway.
Chamakh plays behind the lone striker mostly and is more of an AMC. I love him, possibly one of the most technical players we have had in a long time, but he spends at least 4 months of ever season injured.
Gayle can't do Lone striker and only plays on the wing as a sort of false winger or as partner. We could only play with two upfront against the weaker teams, in which case I reckon Gayle and Bamford would make a pretty decent partnership. Hopefully we draw a League 1 or 2 side in the league cup and you may see this then.
Left typically but he and Zaha swap.
Puncheon plays best behind the striker and almost all games under Pardew this is where he plays. We have have Chung-Yong Lee and possible one of our own youth team, Sullay Kaikai may come through but the former plays more in the middle now and the latter prefers the left.
Regarding Connor Wickham, if we do sign him, he won't automatically come in as our number one striker. In fact as Bamford has had more of a pre-season with us, he may start the season behind him.
Since Pardew has been at Palace he has shown that he'll play the hardest working players in the most suitable system for the opposition. Bamford has as much chance as starting a game as anyone else. I reckon he may even start against Norwich, failing that come on in the second half for Murray.
Finally, below is a video of last nights glorious win over Bromley FC. Bamfords goals are 2, 3 and 4. All through the first half of which Bamford played he seem to link up really well with both Kaikai (25, who provide the assist for Bamford's first) and Zaha (11).
Yeah it was against Bromley but no one else, including Gayle, scored a hatrick that night and the way he handle himself looked positive. We have another game against Fulham tomorrow and another against the Daggers on Monday so I expect him to get some more time before Norwich next week.
