Honest assessment. Most fans will now say 'great business', whereby if he had gone to Liverpool it would have been ' than god, what a ridiculous price, glad we didn't pay it'! Such are all football fans! For what its worth, I think you have signed a top player that has the potential to make a huge difference to your season. At the end of the day the Chelsea owners can clearly afford to pay these sorts of transfer fees so probably not an issue. But are are you concerned that a time bomb is being set ticking with the policy of signing players on incredibly long contracts, on 2023 wages and. this could blow up in your face in say 6 years from now threatening the very future of your club? Brighton nearly went out of existence due to massive financial mismanagement and fraud. I wouldn't wish that on any genuine fan of any club. I know you are Chelsea and probably feel invulnerable right now but history shows no one is too big to fail in any arena that is fundamentally about manging money.

Brighton's policy is to always have at least one replacement coming through in the wings and rarely to let a player go until that replacement is considered good enough or (as was the case with Potter) a replacement from outside is fully researched and available. No illusions that this is easier said then done though, especially as time goes on. Chelsea's pursuit of Caceido has been relentless for months (even allegedly 'agreeing terms' with him during last season only a few months after he signed a new contract). Brighton did their best to sign Colwill who was dithering over a new contract. I cant see why on earth you would consider holding a grudge or why its OK for Chelsea to pursue a Brighton player but not vice versa?

Tony Bloom has got the price he wanted, that was never in doubt. It was never in doubt that Chelsea would get the player if they paid that price and they have. The vitriol against Brighton from some Chelsea ‘fans’ made no sense but was highly amusing. Also amusing how Liverpool are now the target of that bullsh*t. Brighton happy, Chelsea happy. No idea if any player is worth £115m but he is very, very good. Hope he does well.

I think your suffering from paranoia! However, Brighton fans are laughing at Chelsea which is worse than bring hated, so perhaps you're right! Caceido may still end up at Chelsea rather than liverpool. From Brighton’s perspective this will be decided by who pays the required fee not because one club is liked more than the other

To be fair, a section of Chelsea 'fans' on twatter etc have been in meltdown for months because little old Brighton wouldn't sell their best player for a discount 'because we are Chelsea'. The level of arrogance and entitlement has been breathtaking but also very funny (and embarrassing I'm sure for many proper Chelsea fans). Brighton fans are enjoying their moment in the sun absolutely but few have any illusions that it is likely to last forever.

Bizarre post. Do you really think Brighton care either way about Chelsea? Brighton didn't want to sell unless they got their valuation which was at 'an offer we cant refuse' level. There's no rivalry, its just business. If you want to create one with Brighton on your own then knock yourself out but you really are on your own!

Short memory? Only a few months ago Chelsea took Brighton’s manager, coaching staff and player of the season. It didn’t work out but thats hardly Brighton’s fault. Do you really expect a club to sell a player for less than their valuation out of ‘goodwill’?

So Brighton’s stance has not changed from the start. Whether Caceido is or isnt worth £100m is anyones guess, but if Chelsea want him they need to pay it. Alternatively just walk away. I get the feeling that both options suit Brighton so it remains Chelsea’s call.

If agents had their way, contracts would only be one way ie 100% commitment by the club and none from the player. Release clauses are another step in that direction. It doesn't matter whether you are Chelsea or Brighton, the excessive balance of power in favour of players and their agents is not good for football and even worse for the fans who have to pay ever increasing tickets priced to help pay for ever increasing player wages

He only said he feared he would lose some of his best players. Either way, Brighton are prepared to let Caceido go if someone meets their valuation. They have been totally consistent.

I’ll make the point again….. everything is rumour and 99% of it bullsh*t. The current rumour, being treated as fact by many, is that Brighton have Kudus lined up as a Caceido replacement. Neither of us have any idea whether thats true and so he could be a goalkeeper for all it matters!

Fair comment, but my point is that Brighton will only sell Caceido if they have a suitable replacement guaranteed (and they get their valuation which i suggest is based on a ‘crazy offer too good to refuse’). They don't want to sell and don't have to sell. As always we are talking about rumours, but if Kudos is the player Brighton see as the replacement then they will not sell Caceido if Chelsea sign Kudos.

I suspect you’re right. Two things need to happen for Brighton to sell 1. Secure Kudus 2. Chelsea pay the asking price (whatever that may be). Otherwise Caceido will be with Brighton until next summer.

There’s no evidence this was anything more than a made up social media rumour. Similarly with the much vaunted £100M price tag. It could be £81M or £120M but only Brighton know. The only things we all know are that Brighton don’t want to sell, the players has a 4 year contract and Brighton will decide what the price is should they let him go. Everything else is bullsh*t made up by self serving artists like Ramano.

Cucu, Bissouma, Tossard, Burn, Mcallister all got their move away without release clauses. Given that Caicedo signed a new 4 year contract 6 months ago might explain why in his case Brighton feel justified in not letting him follow them out the door in a hurry
