Chelsea in pole position to sign Antonio Candreva

The Premier League leaders look on course to sign the versatile 22 year-old as West Ham cannot match the financial might of their London rivals.

According to the Sun, that has put Chelsea in pole position to sign the player, who made his Italy debut in the goalless draw with Holland during the international break.

Candreva would be a useful squad member for Chelsea given that Michael Essien and John Obi Mikel are heading to the Africa Cup of Nations in January.

Chelsea and Manchester United, meanwhile, have been put on alert after David Villa said he would consider a move to England.

The Valencia striker said "I have not closed the door on any club because I only have a short career and I want to enjoy my football.

"I have had a lot of offers but I would have to pick the best option, and that could be in the Premier League, which I have never ruled out.â€
