Hutch Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 Southampton sack manager PardewLeague One Southampton have dismissed manager Alan Pardew two days after their 4-0 win over Bristol Rovers. Dean Wilkins, previously a member of Pardew's coaching staff, has been named caretaker boss and will be assisted by Under-21 coach Martin Hunter. First-team coach Wally Downes and goalkeeping coach Stuart Murdoch have also been relieved of their duties. Saints, who started the season as favourites to win promotion, are currently 14th in the League One table. "The club has decided that, to achieve its well known targets, it is essential to make changes to the management," said a Southampton statement. "We recognise that frequent changes to the football management are unlikely to assist in the winning of trophies and promotions. "However, we are taking these steps to achieve our aims, which we share with all supporters, to get promoted this season, and secure long term stability and progress for our football operations." geezer Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 I can only guess they've got someone lined up to replace him already otherwise why else would it make sense to sack him just after winning a game 4-0?
Hutch Posted August 30, 2010 Author Posted August 30, 2010 very possibly. i'm guessing they'd already decided to sack Pardew before the Bristol Rovers game... otherwise, i dread to think what might have happened if Southampton had lost!
TheWestwayWonder Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 There must be something else going on behind the scenes. Its a shame becuase Southampton's swiss ownership sound very stable, and I like Pardew. I wouldve liked to see them come back up together.
BlueNose Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 shame to see pardew thrown out of a job that he seemed to be doing well (again)
