Rogelio Funes Mori

Featured Replies

A brand new (or at least not yet reported here) rumour for your consideration. Rogelio Funes Mori is a 19 year old Argentinian forward, not exactly modest if the following article is anything to go by, which reports that he describes himself as "the new Crespo":

Manchester giants battling Chelsea for "New Crespo"

Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City are monitoring River Plate forward Rogelio Funes Mori who has compared himself to former Chelsea star Hernan Crespo.

Chelsea were reportedly the frontrunners for the player’s signature with blues scout Jorge Alvial scouting the striker in the Dallas Cup tournament back in 2008, however the Stamford Bridge club never completed a formal agreement with the player.

The 19-year-old began his career at River Plate and has now established himself in the first team squad having scored 9 goals in 31 appearances for the club.

The youngster dubbed the “New Crespo†wears the famous number 9 shirt for the Argentine club and the striker is following in the footsteps of Crespo, as well as other La Maquina legends such as Abel Balbo, Gabriel Batistuta, Ariel Ortega, Pablo Aimar and Javier Saviola by playing for La Banda Roja.

Manchester United and Manchester City are confirmed as monitoring the striker however Chelsea could steal a march on the Manchester duo having made contact with the player over three years ago.

Mori said: "I compare myself to Crespo, one of my idols, but there are many other players who people liken me to like Aimar, Saviola and Higuain.

Hmmmm,

unfortunately I will ait to get excited about this. Crespo is one of my favourite Chelsea strikers ever, and he played so little for us. I just loved his movement, his passion, and his ability. I was gutted that he never settled here, but kept an eye on him even after he moved on.

I was very excited about Di Santo, as I saw similair movement in young Franco as I did in Hernan. Obviously he started getting the "new Crespo" label tied to him too, but we all know how that turned out.

I've seen a few River Plate games, but usually watch them if I have time and nothing else is going on, and I do remember seeing a young striker come on for them and look great. I'm not sure if this is the one mentioned here, but I'll try check him out again just incase.

If we do land another Crespo...I'd be extatic
