has there been any official statement/quote from the club about whether we are trying to back to the "2 players for every spot" model, or whether we are simply gathering surplus for the African mid-year gap, or anything along those lines?

I haven't seen anything official on that matter. I'm guessing we are going to add at least one name to out's.

Probably one winger is out, maybe Robben or SWP. One of our many DM's could be out. Maka or Diarra. Diarra's loan deal out would do him good. We should loan him out to Arse*al, he'd probably be MVP for them the whole year.

While I don't rate SWP, I'd rather we kept him in the squad than not, if we're not buying a new right winger. I mean, the more depth / choices off the bench, the better for JM. And he did have the odd good game towards the end of the season.

That said, I expect him to be sold for 10-13 million pounds to West Ham or a team of a similar 'status'. He's come to Chelsea, walked away with a bunch of medals, and now will probably want to start getting some regular starts in the EPL in an attempt to revive his flagging International career.
