morris Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 Jose Mourinho has welcomed Avram Grant to Chelsea but told him not to interfere in his affairs. Former Israel manager Grant was appointed as Chelsea's new director of football late last week. A statement from the club said Grant, believed to be a close friend Roman Abramovich, would be responsible for 'liaison on, and co-ordination of, football matters across the various areas of Chelsea FC'. Grant has flown out to Los Angeles with the Chelsea squad and Mourinho is adamant he can work alongside him. However, the Chelsea manager admits there are certain areas Grant must not meddle in. "I think the club was very clear in the statement they put out," said Mourinho. "If you want to know more about his work ethic, you'll have to speak with him. "He's here to give some support to different areas in the club and for me that is not a problem. "If the club wants to bring people to make the club better and to create a job for somebody to support those different areas in the club then fine. "From my point of view, he must not interfere with the power I have in relation to my job. So, welcome, and I will try to help him with what happens at a club like Chelsea."
callista Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Yes, Jose "welcomed" Grant in his own inimatable fashion with an icy warning shot across the bows which basically said "okay you're finally here, I'm happy to put up with you now as long as you keep your big fat nose out of my area of expertise - first team management. So bugger off to your office and I'll see you when I see you..." Ah, Jose we've got to love your style.
