Millwall is the place that's always made me feel most uncomfortable (I say "most" like I've been there loads - it's actually only twice). The During our 2 decade run of complete domination at White Hart Lane, as it went on, I found that became quite unpleasant at times. I probably can't blame them - if I'd been a Spud I'd have hated us too after all that time, but it got quite moody towards the end. From the point Roman took over, the utter, hateful resentment of Liverpool has become apparent. Those 2 games at Anfield in the European Cup that we lost (the first two - the ghost goal and the penalties), that was horrible. I've never had problems in Liverpool before but I remember thinking both of those games were especially unpleasant.

This has been a great read. As someone who first went to the Bridge in the 80s (my first home game was the 82 FA Cup QF against Spurs), it used to amaze (and encourage me) that our away support would sometimes be seemingly even greater than our lower home attendances. I was a kid with my uncle in 82 but was at games under my own steam by mid 80s and was always struck by fact we seemingly had a fair weather home support, and a constantly brilliant away support. Someone made point about how expensive we were in 80s (Ken Bates has loads to answer for, good, bad and ugly) and that's possibly part of it. The first time I ever went to Chelsea on my own, I got there, and I didn't have enough money to get in. It was £3 and that was a LOT then. I'd have technically been a "child" at this point, and £3 was loads. My cousin was a Spurs fan and I asked him how it cost to get into White Hart Lane; I can't remember the figure, but it was a lot less than £3 and he didn't actually believe me that that was cost of getting into The Bridge.

The day Liverpool beat us 5-2 at Bridge in (if memory serves) 1992 they had a pathetic turn-out. It wasn't typical of them, but I remember the Shed singing "you must have come on a Skateboard" to them. Bobby Campbell was manager at the time. Millwall always brought 1000s to ours - the night they knocked us out of FA Cup on penalties, in the Fulham Road, before and after the game I've never seen so many away (and gobby aggressive ones at that). In the days of supporters being held back after games, and police escorts out of ground, mass singing in the Fulham Road by away fans wasn't unusual - but that night sticks in my mind as complete un-policed anarchy and mobs of away fans literally everywhere!
