  1. I think it was through necessity not fashion. My old man worked on the railway and was off to work at 4 in the morning. Summer or winter, it was still bloody cold at that time, so on went the flat cap.
  2. Definitely Ted Drake in the middle, I think shaking hands with Les Stubbs and Peter Sillett in the centre.
  3. Get on Granny! She was probably there from the start of the Chelsea story.
  4. And an interesting read of the Chronical. The humour in those days was 'music hall' inspired, very innocent and prim and proper, although Max Miller was considered risqué in his brand of comedy. Probably the Bernard Manning of his time.
  5. I can only spot one head without a hat or cap!
  6. Essential reading for me and my brothers.
  7. Agreed. Looks like he's escaped from a circus.
  8. F**k Spurs. He'll always be a Chelsea boy to me.
  9. Yeah we were. To be honest, there wasn't the fanatical tribalism then, that was to come in the '60's and '70's onwards, so the Chelsea fans grudgingly accepted it, because everybody knew the club was skint, but looking back it was scandalous how the club was being run then by an inept boardroom.
  10. How refreshing to see a photo of a great player, without a poxy mobile phone on a stick, shoved in his face by someone desperate to get a selfie with the man.
  11. That was our problem then. We could score goals with ease but our defence was pitiful.
  12. I was there that day. There was a stunned silence when Greaves consistently went past the then captain of England, Billy Wright, as though he was a part timer. Everybody at the ground new they were witnessing a very special talent.

  14. Graham had to upstage his brother somehow! Britton's and Dempsey's quiffs leave the rest for dead.
  15. Rodney Marsh was with City between 1972 - 76, so you're probably correct ersk'
  16. Many years ago, I went to Shawfield for the Scottish Derby with a few mates of mine. They lived in a town called Fauldhouse, halfway between Edinburgh and Glasgow. Lunatic Celtic fans unfortunately.
  17. Any Fosbury Floppers back then would have done themselves a serious injury!
  18. The standard distance was 500 yards. Terrific running surface with wide sweeping bends. Did the first three races there before nipping across to White City for their first race, many times.
  19. The middle photo looks like it was taken at a pre season friendly at a non league club, about 1962 ish. I recognise everybody there except the goalkeeper.
  20. Leeds had an all red strip for one season I think.
  21. Yes, I was there as well. I remember it was an irritating, annoying game because we should have won. Brilliant save by Bonetti from their penalty.
  22. Could be ersk. No clues to their identity with no club crest on the shirt and no numbers on the shorts!
  23. Looks like middle of the 1960's as that's John Radford making life difficult for Peter. Seems weird seeing an Arsenal kit without the white sleeves.
  24. I think that's Tommy Baldwin heading the ball, with Keith Weller looking on, but I'm stumped who the opposition is. Burnley?
  25. Very interesting, comparing the two photos. I noticed that some of the chimney stacks have disappeared, probably to make room for renovations inside and that tree on the right has shot up.
