Posted April 26, 200916 yr As in best I mean loudest, most passion, numbers they take away and just the atmosphere at the grounds in general.I've started this as I'm sick of people mugging off southern fans saying we dont sing and we dont travel north of watford. What do you think?
April 26, 200916 yr I can't comment accurately about todays fans, but here's my views on fans in the 70's & early 80's - there was a fair mix between north and south. Obviously I can only go by my personal experiences, and bear in mind that my memory is shot to bits (maybe something to do with the vast quantities of beer consumed during this time) LOUDEST FANS: - Best of the North Newcastle, Man.City, Leeds, Man.Utd, Sheff.Utd, Sheff.Wed, Sunderland, Aston Villa, Birmingham, Stoke, Wolves, Everton, Middlesbrough Best of the South Chelsea (naturally!), Arsenal, Portsmouth, Millwall, West Ham, Plymouth Worst of the North WBA, Burnley, Blackburn, Nottm. For, Derby, Leicester, Ipswich, Norwich, Bolton, Coventry Worst of the South Crystal Palace, QPR, Southampton, Charlton, Fulham, Watford NUMBERS OF AWAY FANS: - Best of the North Man.Utd (though most of their away fans at London grounds were Cockney Reds), Leeds (pains me to admit it), Liverpool (no bottle though), Newcastle, Man.City (sometimes), Nottm. Forest (sometimes) Best of the South Chelsea (no question), Tottenham (hate to admit it, though of course they never had the balls to make a proper attempt at taking the Shed), Millwall, West Ham, Portsmouth, Arsenal Worst of the North Derby (even when they were champions!), Coventry, Ipswich (hardly ever saw a tractor in the Fulham Rd when they were in town), Norwich (ditto), Leicester (w*nkers), Burnley, Blackburn, Bolton, WBA, Sheff.Utd, Sheff.Wed. Worst of the South QPR (you'd be hard pushed to find any of their fans at their own ground), Southampton, Crystal Palace, Charlton, Fulham, Watford
April 26, 200916 yr Pompey fans would out-sing all the rest of the south and all north combined! okay.. ..maybe an exaggeration, but their f**king loud!
