Posted August 6, 200915 yr Leaving Manchester City has done Daniel Sturridge no harm. The 19-year-old, without having yet kicked a ball in anger for Chelsea, has been called up to the England Under-21 squad to face Holland next Tuesday. Sturridge has already represented England at every level up to under-20s and will be joined in maanger Stuart Pearce’s 19-man squad by club-mate Michael Mancienne and Aston Villa's new arrival Fabian Delph. good luck studge.

August 6, 200915 yr is he? excellent. yeah he is. EAGER TO PLEASEPosted on: Thu 06 Aug 2009 Daniel Sturridge's early Chelsea form has earned him a first England Under 21 call-up, but the young forward is focused solely on the Blues as the Community Shield approaches. The 19-year-old forward netted just minutes into his debut with a smart finish against Seattle Sounders, before impressing in his subsequent appearances, including Tuesday's friendly reserve win over QPR. Now he is hoping for a competitive debut at the home of English football, which would be a first appearance at Wembley, against the side who used to be his local rivals at Manchester City. 'I haven't played at Wembley so this will hopefully be my first time. Of course I'm looking forward to it but the main thing is to take each day as it comes and I hope to be in the squad to show the manager what I can do,' he explained. 'The main thing for us is to get the win, everyone wants that and I want to be able to show everyone what I am all about.' The forward played 60 minutes against QPR at Cobham alongside Salomon Kalou, and believes the pair have a good understanding after a lively showing. It was the second time they have played together, with Stuart Pearce's latest call having partnered the Ivorian against Club America in Dallas on our last game of the US Tour. 'It was good again, obviously a good game to play in to get the minutes, they are needed because you need the fitness as much as you can for the season so that you can be in peak condition when it starts, and then you obviously need to maintain it,' said the England Under 20 international. 'Sala and I have trained together a lot in training up front, and playing in the game you get used to playing with someone and how they manoeuvre.' On the field, his new team-mates have christened the youngster 'Studge', a typically uninventive footballer's nickname, though the player insists this is nothing new. 'It's been my nickname for about 10 years, it's a family name I think because my uncles had it and my dad had it, so it's the typical footballing Sturridge name,' he said, when asked if there had been anything more original. Now Sturridge sets out to make a name for himself as a Chelsea player, and although Nicolas Anelka and Didier Drogba will be favourites to start together on Sunday, he is a youngster ready and waiting to make his mark. Sturridge is joined in the England Under 21 squad by Michael Mancienne and Ryan Bertrand, who is currently on loan to Reading. A full international round-up will follow here on chelseafc.com before next week's fixtures. Official Website
