Memories of Stockholm

Featured Replies

I've got a few from what was a really great trip but this is my favourite.

I went out Mon-Fri and stayed at some campsite way out at the end of the metro line. There were both Stuttgart and Chelsea staying there. After the match I came back, still buzzing (we'd done it, equalled the 1970 team, never thought I'd see that) and I couldn't sleep. Laying there in my tent I could here some Germans talking a couple of sites away. They were obviously upset, humiliated and totally pissed off. Excuse my German but one of them said said something like this:

"Die Nord Stand, alles Chelsea!... Die Ost Stand, alles Chelsea!... Der West Stand, alles Chelsea!... Die Sud Stand, alles Chelsea! Das stadion ................. ALLES f**kING CHELSEA!

I had a little chuckle at that.

So who's going to be the first to mention the attractive Swedish bird in the window with her tits out at the end of the match...

No doubt about it, my best away game in all my years following the Blues. Due to all round skintness I hitched it there and back, took just under a week. Great memories of campsites by a lake in Denmark and on the edge of the Baltic Sea on the night before the match. Arriving in Stockholm courtesy of an elderly Swedish couple who were decked out head to toe in Chelsea colours just because their daughter had studied in London and stayed in Fulham and becoming a Chelsea fan. Meeting up with some Chelsea lads from Deal in Kent who'd driven there and had a car boot full of Danish duty free booze which they'd no problem sharing with a gentleman of the road. Spending the whole day just wandering

around what is one of the most beautiful and friendly cities I've visited. Getting a ticket for £60 10 hours before kick off which killed off my biggest worry of not actually seeing the game. Seeing the city fill up with Chelsea as the day progressed and stumbling, literally,

little side street boozers and hearing Ten men went to mow being sung inside. I think the big boozer outside our end was called the Prince of Wales and was rammed solid with pissed up Blues in good voice two hours before kick off. Getting in the ground and realising I was in a

bigwig section and sitting next to the gorgeous redhead daughter of a Danish FA official but being a gentleman I'll say no more about that.

ZOLA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Arriving in Copenhagen the day after the game and seeing how many Chelsea were there and still on the piss, and big thanks to the minibus

blues from East Grinstead who'd squeezed me in for the overnight drive to Denmark, not a lot of sleep going on but plenty of singing and

boozing.

Arriving back in London early Saturday evening and being the only Chelsea supporter on Euston station among hundreds of celebrating Goons

who'd just clinched the double at Wembley, and credit to the trio of them who on hearing my tale and realising how desperately skint I was, paid for a sarny and a couple of beers before I caught the train to MK for the last leg of my journey.

As mentioned at the start, best away game ever.
