Posted March 11, 20169 yr So with Conte's arrival at Chelsea all but sealed according to reports, and the strong possibility of Mourinho taking over at United, the premier league will have pretty much all of the top rated managers in the world with Guardiola, Mourinho, Conte, Klopp, Wenger and Pochettino all in our league, along with a few other quality managers like Bilic, Koeman, and possibly FSW at Newcastle. My question now is, could this be the revival of the premier league in Europe? There's no question in my mind that in recent years, the best of our division hasn't measured up to the standards of Europe's heavy hitters in Real, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, PSG and Atletico, but now we're seeing an influx of world class managers to the league, who will hopefully be able to draw top players in with them. Could we go back to seeing a dominance of Premier League team in Europe, as was the case in the mid-2000s when we consistently had one or two English teams reaching the quarter/ semi-finals of the Champions League, or is the grip on it from those European teams I mentioned earlier too tight? In my opinion, I can see, over the course of the next couple of years, a major revival in Europe, since the likes of Guardiola and Mourinho can attract the very top talent, and will likely have the funds to do so as well. Hopefully, from our point of view, Conte can build us a team that is capable of competing with any team out there, but to do so I think we really need to have a look at what made us, and other English teams so successful in the past. They have always had strong, powerful players and great leaders making up the spine of the team, complemented with wonderful technical players, like we had with Robben, Mata, etc. and United had with Ronaldo, Tevez and others. I think we need to stop trying to emulate the Spanish style of a team of tiny little quick, skillful players. That's their footballing identity, we have our own, and it's really a matter of testing the contrasting footballing styles of different nations against each other. What do people think? Could this signal a new era for what is undoubtedly a waning Premiership? (Note I say waning in terms of our competing in Europe, not domestically, because the league is certainly still extremely unpredictable, competitive and exciting, if not moreso than it has ever been)
March 11, 20169 yr Good question, RMCM! I woud say 'yes'! You guys have a lot of mony! Other leagues like the Belgian and the Dutch will desappear. But, do you think the Champions League will survive the in the next 5 years?
