From the Times.......

The manager has other problems to deal with as Wayne Bridge was unable to train yesterday because of a hip injury that could rule him out of the start of the season. The England left back has been carrying the problem since the end of last season, when he was forced to pull out of the 1-1 draw with Brazil at Wembley.

Bridge trained on Tuesday but suffered a reaction yesterday and was sent for X-rays. Chelsea?s medical staff has yet to decide whether to operate. The 26-year-old has been plagued by injuries throughout his Chelsea career and had ankle surgery in March.

?Bridge is a problem he brings since the last game with the national team,? Mourinho said. ?Yesterday he tried but he wasn?t feeling good. He?s in the medical department?s hands and we?ll have to make a decision on his future. It?s something in his hip. I have no idea if he?ll need surgery, but they?re making X-rays.?

Chelsea are without a recognised left back as Ashley Cole has yet to resume training after an ankle operation last month, although Mourinho is confident that he will be fit for the start of the season.

?Ashley is in the final process of his recovery,? Mourinho said. ?He was a very good professional in his holidays, which were reduced to just a week. He was working and trying to recover from his surgery during the whole period.

?We believe he can start working with the team in the United States, perhaps in the middle of the second week.?

God I hope so too Alan, this time last year was when Joe Cole picked up his injury, and he hardly played all season. I know we Have Cole back tehre, so maybe that will help him with a run in the team, but at the same time, it may make him lacsidasical as he won't ahve to fight for his place

Watched SSN just now and Bridge said he is going for a scan tomorrow and will know the score then.

He has no idea if he will be ready for pre-season.

Says the spirit in the camp is good and all the new players have settled in.

Seemed relatively upbeat but at the same time you sense he has prepared himself for the worse if necessary.

Hope he is fit because I really think he's a good player for us - rate him more than Cole from what I've seen so far.

Terribly bad luck for him.

yip, a player ravaged with injuries. Broken leg from Shearer, and now this, plus I am sure he had more between those!
