Chelsea line up £40 million Striker

According to reports in the News of the World Chelsea striker, Claudio Pizarro is being targeted by Serie A side Lazio. Rumours in a few other of today's papers are linking Chelsea with Sam Eto'o in what would be a £40 million replacement for Pizarro.

The former Bayern Munich star only joined the Londoners last year but has failed to make a huge impact at Stamford Bridge where he is competing for places with Drogba, Shevchenko, Kalou and now Blues new boy Nicolas Anelka.

However, Lazio are thought to be very interested in bringing the Peruvian international to Italy where he would be be much more likely to get first team football.

Chelsea have been linked with Samuel Eto'o in recent weeks and would be the replacement at the club should Pizarro leave. Although rumours which are linking Eto'o with Chelsea are putting a £40 million price tag on the Cameroonian.

Would love to have him. Ideally alongside Drogs, but as a replacement it'd be him or Zlatan for me. Mr. Piz hasn't got anything to do with his being bought though. Mr. Piz will be sold in the summer anyway (possibly to another English club like Bolton, who appreciate a striker who can play with his back to goal and hold up play, etc). With or without Eto / Zlatan / Whoever, Mr. Piz and Shev will be moved on in the summer and our striking roster will look quite a bit different (and better, I might add).

He would be great. In the last articles about Drogba, it was mentionned he dreamed of playing with him. Now Drogs would no longer need to leave. icon_wink.gif

And, a hypotetical striker contingent of Drogba, Eto'o, Anelka, Kalou, would be deadly. And even more so if we could add a Huntelaar or a Berbatov. Plus, we'd gain a depth we don't have right now. Given that both Pizarro and Sheva are underachieving.

I think that the links to us and Eto'o are merely press speculation after Drogba saying that he admired Sam, and would like to play alongside him. I know that Eto'o was a bit of an ar*e (spitting at the steward, and generally bit*hing about how he hated Chelsea) but he is an unbelieveable talent, and still young. 40 million! That might be what it takes to get him, but personally I would rather pay a little less and go for Benzema...that being said, I wouldn't turn my nose up to signing Eto'o

Not too sure I'd be happy to see us signing Eto or not, he's an incredible player, but not one that I really like much. I guess that'd soon be forgotten when he starts scoring loads for us though :)

@ Kornblume, would we really need Drogba, Eto'o, Anelka, Kalou and Berbatov/Huntelaar? I'd much rather just stick with the first four you mentioned and have someone like Sahar as a backup. Plus I think Huntelaar will go to United, and Berbatov to Newcastle(!)
