Posted November 3, 200816 yr Guardian - Chelsea Sack 15 Scouts Some 15 members of the club's 25-man scouting department were released last week, including the former Scotland under-21 coach and Germany international Rainer Bonhoff, with Roman Abramovich seeking a more focused and deliberate approach in future. Also this is an interesting article: Guardian - Roman's Wealth
November 3, 200816 yr I heard this the other night. Apparently they claim, Roman isn't going to throw money around as much now. The no-buy January transfer must be fact then.
November 3, 200816 yr 25 scouts ? seems a bit much. 2 or 3 shed enders could tell them all they need to know.
November 3, 200816 yr I think that re-structuring the scouting network has a lot more to do with the lack of results from the scouting network over the last 4 or 5 years than anything to do with Roman tightening the purse strings. I mean, if you have 25 scouts spread out around the world, even if each of them only came up with one decent prospect per year, you would expect a minimum of 25 high-level youth players to be coming to the club per season. That hasn't happened. Most of the youngsters we have signed have come from other English clubs, Portugese clubs (through Mourinho's and Scolari's connections) and Dutch clubs (through Arnesen). The only prospect who really came out of left-field was Di Santo, who we signed from the Chilean leagues. I think the 15 scouts who have been moved on really don't have a lot of end product to show for themselves.
