Hello. This is my first post and it is merely a coincidence that im posting during this "Mini crisis"; for want of a better name.
If im honest, i was upset by the news. He was our stand out player for the past two years (By a fair distance) and is still probably our best attacking option (Albeit not as good as Oscar defensively, but that is another argument entirely). I had accepted Mourinho's decision to leave him out, even if i felt Mata should of been playing, i trusted Mourinho and trusted his explanation (Which made sense) for he is Mourinho. I had hoped, without much expectation, that he could adapt to the inside forward role that Willian is playing now but he couldn't (Not surprising really) and it was highlighted the most in the Southampton game, where we looked much better defensively and going forward with Willian playing. Since the Southampton game (ironically the first day of the transfer window) i had accepted that letting Mata go was the best for both parties and was ok with us selling him.
What i am upset about and quite miffed about, is the selling to the Mancs. It makes no sense to us medium or long term. While united are not competing currently (And may take points off rivals) they still have a squad that is full of quality players and signing Mata wont just improve their first team significantly but also give the morale boost Ozil did to Arsenal. Yes they aren't tital rivals this season but with Mata, they are almost guaranteed 4th place, meaning they will be able to bring in players to get the best out of Mata and make their team one of the best again. This isn't like Liverpool getting 4th place, this is a much bigger club nowadays who were on the verge of sinking yet we go and chuck them a lifeboat. To put it this way, who would you rather make top 4? Liverpool or Man utd?
I also dont understand the Rooney move. Rooney will be 29/30 in the summer, is known to be inconsistent and is not considered the best physically. Thinking about it, we may only get 1 good year out of him and is it worth giving them such a boost just for 1 year? I don't think it is. Not to mention the fact that he would probably cost the same amount (If not more) then Mata as the mancs aren't as willing to sell as we are and also the fact that Mata joining might cause Rooney to want to stay as well.
To summarise, this all seems extremely short sighted by JM and the club and may well bite us in the ass, however, i guess we have to trust in his judgement as our manager.
