I once clapped when Charlie George scored a great goal against us. - 24th April 1982, we lost 2-0, C.G.'s goal sealed our fate coming as it did in the last few minutes. However I really had to clap it as it was truly a moment of footballing genius. I was in the benches and got "stared" at by the Chelsea faithful. Maybe if football could be played in this kind of atmosphere Anton would have helped Terry out and Fergusson would have instructed Rooney to pass to our keeper on both penalties last week because of the refs mistake.

Sunderland v Chelsea. We lost 2-0. The other teams in the semi were Norwich and Ipswich. The bookies had us as evens favourites. However, after losing the first leg away 2-0 we went out to 9-2. I thought these were great odds as I was sure we could overcome a 2 goal deficit within the 90 minutes and then finish them off in extra-time if necessary. I was sure then that we would have been favourites in the final and I could have hedged it by backing the opponents so I did my biggest ever single bet. I put £200 on us to win the league cup. Gutted. Totally gutted. To this day. I am sure the home leg was sent, or at least the trouble. I remember also the home leg for the actions of one of the usual crowd I used to travel on the specials with in 80-83, quite a timid fella by the name of Lance. Never got into any trouble or had a bad word to say to anybody. Anyway, when Walker was attacked that night on the field I just could not believe it when I saw Lance was his assailant as he (Lance) was dragged off by about 7 old bill. Just in case you didn't watch the Moan Utd game from 34 years ago today, 2-2 11th Feb 1978 - Brian Moore explains in the first 2 minutes that Utd's team cost £2 000 000 and Chelsea cost £2 000. In today's money Chelsea cost £9,800 and Moan U £9,800,000

Spotting viruses reminds me of the old days in the 70's when we had to try and spot the West Ham faces in the shed. Trouble was most of our North Stand firm were unknown to the shedites so the common tactic against Millwall and West Ham was for the North Stand firm to wait by the Bovril tea bar staircase and the charge the entire shed when they reckoned there were enough enemy in there. Generally speaking everyone ran until the Shedboys realised it was Chelsea North Stand coming in at which point they'd turn and stay. In 1977 West Ham were on the receiving end of a brutal kicking down by the barriers. (I almost felt sorry for them but I didn't as they'd had a go at the Shed). A couple of local Fulham old bill "rescued" West Ham fans and then made truncheon meat out of them. (Local North Stand boys had gone to school with many of the local old bill and in the heat of the moment they always helped us out). After 77 West Ham never again tried to take the shed. Its the "El Alamein" of Chelsea folklore. In fact I suppose we could have called our North Stand "the Anti-Virus firm".

David Stride. Born 14 March 1958 Always worked hard and ran a lot. Gutsy but not really talented. He didn't go forward a lot and did not score in any of his 35 games for us. David joined Chelsea as an apprentice, signing professional forms in January 1976. In 78 he had a spell on loan with the Memphis Rogues of the North American Soccer League. He was reserve team captain for quite a few games and made his first team debut in the 1-1 at Birmingham on 23rd September 1978. He played 32 league games during the 1978/79 ill-fated campaign. After playing 3 games in the 79-80 season we sold him to the Rogues. In 1981, Memphis sent him to the Minnesota Kicks. In Autumn 81, he signed with the Cleveland Force of the Major Indoor Soccer League. In 1982, he moved to the Jacksonville Tea Men. Following the 1982 NASL season, Stride returned to England to play for Millwall in January 83 and then moved on to Leyton Orient.
