He is the main man here who has gone to great lengths to supply us with the video. I like my likes as I know I have a lot of input into this era but please, click on Eddies films if you like them.
  2. > Verona skins young & old in an English bar I bet I know the pub you mean in Rimini. It would be the Rose and Crown, with Ian, the Charlton barman who has worked there for 30 years. I live in Rimini two-three months a year looking after cyclists. (I work as a Cycling guide out of a Rimimi hotel). http://www.roseandcrown.it/ The pub was tear-gased during World Cup 90. Here. Note that Colin Moynihan the (4th Baron Moynihan PC) was Sports Minister at the time and he had chartered a plane for 246 people three days before the trouble in Rimini. The Italian police nicked 246 people, how fitting! Moynihan was full of hatred for football and the working classes. He was a PR disaster.
  3. The cold winter of 78-79 resulted in a lot of postponed games. However in those days you were allowed to rearrange it with a few days. The police stopped this after the famous three team ruck at Luton involving Chelsea, Millwall and West Ham in 85. So many games were cleared up. You were also allowed to play games after the cup final. The rule on fairness that the entire league had to finish on the same day was brought in after Coventry had three games left at the end of the 1985 season. If they won them all Norwich would be relegated. But they had only won 12 in 39 and 2 of the last 9. The bookies had it at 50-1. Coventry of course still had something to play for. However they had to play Everton who had won the league and were 13 points clear. Their results Stoke City - away W 1-0 Luton Town - home W 1-0 Everton - home - W 4-1 Ever since then the league has to finish on the same day, and has? ever since. (I am unaware of any exceptions but it could happen I guess). The FA only acted because it became high profile. The rule should have been bought in when a) West Ham had to go and win at Roker Park 2 days after the 1980 cup final. They spent two days drinking and didn't try to score. (I was there). b) Coventry and Bristol City played out a 2-2 draw in 76-77 after the season had finished for other teams. The last 25 minutes was a parody with the two teams passing the ball around. The draw kept both teams up and relegated Sunderland. As for that bad winter.... Entire fixture list for Saturday 6th January 1979 Planned 32 cup games and 8 games in the lower divisions English FA Cup Third Round Birmingham City 0-2 Burnley Leicester City 3-0 Norwich City Sheffield Wednesday 1-1 Arsenal Shrewsbury Town 3-1 Cambridge United English Division Three Walsall 1-2 Hull City Watford 2-0 Lincoln City Entire fixture list for Saturday 13th January 1979 Planned 46 games English Division One Arsenal 2-1 Nottingham Forest Bristol City 0-0 Tottenham Hotspur Leeds United 1-1 Manchester City Norwich City 1-1 West Bromwich Albion English Division Two Cambridge United 5-0 Cardiff City English Division Three Exeter City 3-1 Chesterfield Gillingham 3-2 Tranmere Rovers Peterborough United 2-1 Chester City English Division Four Aldershot 1-1 Port Vale Bournemouth 0-1 Crewe Alexandra Newport County 3-2 Reading Portsmouth 1-1 Rochdale Finally, the reason you normally played cup final teams after the season was because the cup rounds could go to 3 or 4 replays so teams involved in the FA Cup usually had games left after the season. No point in arranging the week before cup final (injury risks) so these games were played after.
  4. Burnley. We were supposed to play them on Saturday 28th, We stood outside in queues, gates not open. At 2.15 a late inspection and game off. Chelsea - en masse - decide to go to Highbury. Arsenal Wolves in the cup. Chelsea turn up just after kickoff and take the North Bank. Arsenal fans spill over onto the pitch. Wolves think they are taking the end and run accross the pitch to join in and Chelsea batter them as well. The match highlights were televised and you could Chelsea fans all game. The camera crews were ordered not to show Chelsea and they filmed low strange angles behind the goal. As for the rearranged game on Tuesday 31st - Burnley scored after 17 seconds and we quaked. We thought we would now lose. Our previous two home games we had scored 4 (Liverpool) and 5 (Ipswich). We completed the sequence by then bunging in 6 past Burnley. With a few minutes to go Burnley scored and the Shed cheer and start singing "Burnley are back alo, alo, Burnley are back alo, alo, Burnley are back alo, alo, Burnley are back alo, alo," On their next attack we cheer them on to score again. They don't. Final whistle and both teams clapped off the pitch. .
  5. :NoSeatingInTheShedInMyDay You misunderstand. I love seeing my photos. There are many Chelsea photo slide show clips on youtubes, most have at least one of my photos, Things was I sold around 12 000 copies of photos to Chelsea fans in the early 80's. 81-82 I did every away game in the seats and took photos of our boys on the terraces. Its amazing seeing them turn up all over the place. Please put it back. Its nice have that shot of the shed. I use it on my missing link site here http://www.algonet.s...af1/index2.html
  6. > Mickey Droy goal against Cardiff, Me and Cathy had a wall exchange on Facebook about it a few weeks ago.
  7. Correct McDonald's last night as well. But it was not known. The teams lined up for Bonetti. 23 players in two lines. This was 14th May 1979. Incredibly we played Arsenal at home just a few weeks after meeting them away on Easter Monday. That Easter Monday we lost 5-2 at Arsenal in the morning and I went from Highbury over to Wimbledon vs Torquay in the afternoon. That afternoon Wolves got a point that relegated us. So the Monday 14th May game then: On the Friday I had stood in Palace's record ever crowd as they beat Burnley 2-0 and won the Div II championship. On the Saturday Arsenal had beaten Man Utd in the cup final. The final was crap and I fell asleep. Arsenal were 2-0 up and Utd scored 2 in the last 5 minutes which woke the game up before lucky Arsenal scored the winner in the last minute. 83 minutes of boredom and yet people will tell you what a great game it was. On the Monday night we drew 1-1 and we sung "Lucky Lucky Arsenal" all game. Then on the Wednesday (still don't know why Bonetti didn't play) we went to Old Trafford and got a 1-1 draw with Man U. So we played both cup final teams after the cup final. At Man U we sung "Alan, Alan Sunderland". (Name of Arsenal player who scored jammy winning goal against them). That last Div 1 goal was on the stroke of half-time, a 40 yard rocket from Gary Johnson. He scored our first goal in Division II after the close season as well.
  8. NoSeatingInTheShedInMyDay Nice nic. But just to inform you the picture you are using for yourself? - Its mine. Feel free to carry on using it. I took it a few seconds after we scored against Liverpool in the 5th round 82. 13th Feb
  9. > Following on from Eddie Macs fantastic collection of Chelsea footage, what games do you wish were filmed but wernt? Plymouth away league cup 79. Fillery's best ever goal. Plymouth home league cup 79. Droy's wonder goal in the 65th, going on an 80 yard run to round their keeper and slot the ball in. (We went out, 2-2 away and 1-2 home). Orient 3 Chelsea 7 League Cup 65 home and away finals Bolton away May 83 when Walker saved us Arsenal away 79, Easter Monday, Walker's cracker goal - we lost 5-2 Arsenal home May 79, 2 days after they won the cup, 1-1 Bonettis last game Any of the championship 1955 homes games when Micky Greenaway was a ball boy behind the shed end goal Our pre-season tours of Sweden in 81 and 82. 10. > What about this game Garry, did any Chelsea make it out to Iraq? I'm sure the north stand would have had Saddam Hussain & his army on the run lol! What goal? I see no goal? Note also Den's Xmas present is the highest single channel event. The Chelsea game has already been linked to On April 17th 1970 the world was in limbo, nobody knew what would happen. To add to this drama Apollo 13th was in trouble on April 17 and the focus on Chelsea Leeds was lost for a few minutes. This is the original TV recording. None of today's presenters on Sky News, BBC or any other tv channel can match these. This was when broadcasting news was about broadcasting the news and not about entertainment. 12. And I know this was only last night and does not really belong here. I have however found some JCL's in the other forums that I can't stand so here goes... Anyway, this - for me - is already Chelsea vintage. Our youth team coming back from 3-0 down at half-time to win 4-3. I have no idea who these studio presenters are. (Should I?). But the guy has come out with the most ludricous statement I have ever heard in a football TV studio. And call me old-fashioned, sexist and whatever but I usually find it very hard to take women in the football studio. (Unless they are qualified, like Cathy for instance would be good). I suppose its just because there had never been a woman IN a football studio when I emigrated in 1988. She is better than the guy but that's only because of this... (The ludricous statement:) He says: "Three nil up is always a scary postion to be in" - What EFFING planet is he broadcasting from? At Three Nil up you are dancing in the aisles, the game is dead and burried and you are not going to lose. Granted that it can happen, but SCARED AT THREE-NIL UP??? Scared? What a div! If you can't allow yourself to take the mick out the other side and cheer at 3-0 up you are never going to be happy supporting a team. As far as I know the Chelsea first team have only ever been involved in 2 games in our 107 years where either side has pulled back 0-3 to 4-3 during the 90 minutes. Blackpool 3 Chelsea 4 Date: Saturday, 24th October 1970 Competition: Football League Division 1 Position 5 Venue: Bloomfield Road Attendance: 24,940 Referee: JGD Lewis (Port Talbot) Blackpool Thomson, Armfield, Mowbray, Hatton, James, Bentley, Burns, Green, Pickering (Craven 76), Suddick, Hutchison Manager Les Shannon Chelsea 1 John Phillips, 2 Paddy Mulligan, 3 Ron Harris, 4 John Hollins, 5 Marvin Hinton, 6 David Webb, 7 Keith Weller, 8 Alan Hudson, 9 Peter Osgood, 10 Tommy Baldwin (12 Charlie Cooke 67), 11 Peter Houseman Manager Dave Sexton And of course: Date: Saturday, 14th October 1978 Competition: Football League Division 1 Position 21 Venue: Stamford Bridge Attendance: 19,879 Referee: Eric A Read (Bristol) Chelsea 1 Bob Iles, 2 David Hay, 3 David Stride, 4 Ray Lewington, 5 Steve Wicks, 6 Ron Harris, 7 Ken Swain, 8 Ray Wilkins, 9 Tommy Langley, 10 Ian Britton, 11 Garry Stanley (12 Clive Walker 71) Scorers Langley 72, Swain 84, Walker 87, Allardyce (O.G) 89 Manager Ken Shellito Bolton Wanderers McDonagh, Jones, Burke, Greaves, Walsh, Allardyce, Morgan, Reid, Gowling (Whatmore 71), Worthington, Smith Scorers Gowling 17, Worthington 36 (Pen), Gowling 40 Manager Ian Greaves Worth noting the similarities between those two. 13. Anyone got that Rotherham 6, Chelsea 0 game. There is a story that needs to be told about that week. We had two friendlies in The Sudan booked for the week following this game. The players had their jabs on the Friday. (Day before Rotherham) The result was collective drowsiness and fatigue. Me and Terry Last were due to fly out on the Monday afternoon. I had my jabs booked for Monday morning, I didn't fancy the trip to Yorkshire if I couldn't be on form and keep on my toes. You had to watch your backs up in this part of the world back then. The club thought, wrongly, that the players as fit and able athletes would be able to cope. It backfired. We even missed a penalty twice! We were looking forward to the Sudan trip and as we would not be allowed on the team bus we had booked a camel train to get us to the next city for the second match. On the Sunday civil war broke out and after lots of frantic phone calls we were not sure whether to go. I'd stood against Millwall at the Wembley 5's earlier in 81 and stared death in the face at West Ham in 79 and lived to see the sun rise in the morning on both occasions. So in that respect what was the mere threat of a war zone and a nuclear bomb or two for a Chelsea fan? On Sunday night Rhodes-Brown got the word out - the trip was off. About the time we'd have been landing the airport was being overrun by Guerrillas and as it turned out we'd have walked right bang into it. Me and Terry might have been out of our depth but I am sure the North Stand would have given it a go. Anyway, glutton for punishment as I am I'd like to see the original screening of the game. (And not just the highlights on Youtube.)
  14. > Probably a bad idea Garry, all that hair's a tad depressing nowadays. We are watching videos with Walker and Wilkins, I'd have thought it was in place to show what we looked like at the time.
  15. If anyone else can find their cosc supporters card, why not put it up as your profile picture?
  16. What did u lot look like then, back in the day? I got my COSC card on the Tuesday between Bolton 4-3 comeback and Liverpool 0-2 at Anfield. With this picture..... And what do you look like today?
  17. Check out the COSC group on Facebook. Me Alan Mark
  18. Thanks for that link. At 7.20: (All the police have to worry about is the odd fan because they keep Chelsea and Cardiff apart). So why is it that 30 years later they lead the Cardiff mob out of the ground on 90 minutes and straight into Chelsea fans and then no police are around. Seven close circuit cameras are there at that spot. The police not only allowed it to go ahead, they set it up. Then they could nick them and hand out long sentences. That should be obvious to see. This proves the police where onto this problem and stopped it 30 years ago. Scandal what happened against Cardiff.
  19. Thats part of it mate. Now go back two pages... However on the page you uploaded, in the text it refers to our great support. "around the country this eason and the next, and the next" meant 82-83, 83-84 and 84-85. In cathy's case they needed to write .... and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next and counting. (She has not missed a match home or away for 35 years!
  20. I've just been watching the first series of "Auf Wiedersehen, Pet". Someone is upset and nobody is talking to one of the lads, he's been sent to Coventry, Neville asks "I wonder what they say in Germany for Coventry"!, - OZ comes out with "Dresden". I laughed for 5 minutes and I am still smiling now. Some of the comradeship is very real and lads sticking together does remind you of Chelsea vintage supporters standing together. And a little bit of off topic trivia. The filmset for AWP was not in Germany, it was on wasteland behind the Elstree Studios. They did ten days of filmimg in Germany for the outdoor shots when they needed to be there. The buiilding site was actually turned into Albert Square and has been the film set of Eastenders ever since.
  21. Do you lot think that in 1979 our 50-something fans were discussing who stood where in 1946. Shudder to think.
  22. I still say I was in there in 77 and it was not taken. This was the match the North Stand Boys came in from the tea-bar and ran the entire shed. Chelsea and West Ham run. It is possible some people thought the firm in the Shed was West Ham but it was Chelsea North
  23. > chelsea realised on that day that the icf wasn't invincable after all. Mark I'd put the ICF around 81-82, it was the old Mile End crew that used to run the shot at West Ham. By the time these mouthy lads in casual cloths got involved and called themselves the ICF the "takes" and the "take attempts" were a thing of the past. I certainly don't think the name "icf" was used before 81. > There was definently a night game around 1979 Yes, but that's not what you said :) It was 14th November 1979. A Monday night.
  24. Anyone managed to dig out the Chelsea v Leicester programme from August 82 yet? If so, check it. :)
  25. 6/9/80 Lost 1-0. I think this was a night game, No. That was a Saturday game. I have written what happened in 77 a few pages back. They did have numbers in the shed. But their boys had not got it together. Before one shout of "we are West Ham" rang out - ie "A Take" - our North Stand - they were the Shed's defence when it was needed - stormed in and ran the entire shed, West Ham, Chelsea including myself. After they took the shed they sung "We're the North Stand, We're the North Stand, North Stand, Stamford Bridge. West Ham got a complete pasting and numbers in the shed is not a take. I went to the others you listed except 84. I had stopped going all together in 87 but me and my mate met two Swedish Birds in the West End on the Friday night. We sneaked into the Regent's Palace with them and Saturday morning we thought they'd be doing King's Road/Oxford Street as they were just tourists and we'd probably grab a bit of breakie with them and that we'd be hitting the pub lunchtime by ourselves. However they asked if we could take them to a football match. In those days you couldn't swap facebook nicks or mobile numbers so you generally didn't say in touch with every Tom, Dick and Harry (or even Britt, and Eva) you met. Easy come, easy go being the general motto. This just happened to be 12th December 87. Chelsea v West Ham. So we go over the Broadway. On the way to the ground the two Swedish girls decide to support one team each and buy a Chelsea scarf and a West Ham scarf. My mate had been a regular Shedite in his youth but had hardly seen a game in 10 years, he was a bit of a spiv, always ducking and diving and never really working by then, but like so many more in the day, he always had money. Anyway, in a packed shed I don't remember any violence. The girl who was to buy a West Ham scarf: We talked her out of it. It was a 1-1 draw and I must say the grope and bundle after our goal was one of the nicest I have ever experienced in the shed. :) Pity we didn't win 6-0, or maybe just as well because she might well have given birth 9 months later if we had scored 6. I even remember a night in the Punch and Judy at Covent Garden with them after the match. Good days, no pressure or commitments, where did it all go? As for Facebook I was added by one of these girls last year. 24 years after having last met. Quite funny that she didn't know I'd moved to Sweden and twenty years ago she'd got married and moved to a town just 50 miles from where I live today in the same county (practically next door by Swedish norms). Anyway, she still remembers the Chelsea West Ham of 87. Her only ever match!
