Anyone remember those first membership cards ?

Just a laminated bit of paper with your picture on, I had 99% more hair, a tank top and a blue and white scarf on mine.

Never used, just one of those ' anti hooligan' measures though up after a bit of mither somewhere.

Had mine up to a couple of years ago, when it got lost in a house move. Anybody still got theirs ?

I remember them, 50p I think and they stated that the holder is a bona fide supporter of Chelsea FC and were never used for anything at all.

A few of mine from down the years, oldest one is 77/8. I look like Frank Gallaghers scruffy brother in the last one.

I still have my old membership card from the official supporters club if it comes to light probably would not post a pic on here.

Was more proud of being a member of the Chelsea Supporters club 5?? Fulham Road and aquired tickets from them when we were banned and also used to use their coaches, also did a nice fanzine style publication every month.

The Chelsea Blue was the magazine, still got a few knocking about somewhere, xeroxed pictures of player of the year dances and the like, also used to go on the coaches but picked them up in Mitcham where their garage used to be.

MKBlue is right - the first (laminated) ones came out in the '75 season but were never used.

Everyone got one because the threat was no card - no entry to the Ground, I recall.

I loved the wording on the back "Holder is a bona fide supporter of Chelsea Football Club ... confirmation can be obtained by writing to the Club Secretary at the Stamford Bridge Grounds" or something.

The orange one is the first that came with the new style voucher books, wasn't it?

They were funny colours - yellow, purple etc etc.

  • 7 months later...

Still have mine in my Programme collection, I remember when the club where going to intrduce ID cards for the terraces which where 50p I had one but they where never bought into use as the fear of floating fans would not get in losing the club revenue. When the official supporters club was formed you could hand in your ID card to get a seasons free membership, whic I did. Regret it now

Dont have any now but also remember the little membership for the old supporters club and their coaches...Wonderfull in all ways that club...Small shop with thousands of progs for one to look thru..One of the guys who ran those coaches i saw coupla years back and he hadnt aged visualy at all..He remembered me too even though i had tons of hair and was a size 28 waist in those days.I found that him remembering me gave me a special glow of pride...I remember him telling me i was barred from the coaches once for an incident at a motorway service stn only for him to rescind it when i gave a heartfelt apology...Great days...Great supporters club that was. Great guys n gals on those coaches...Now tht really was a chelsea family......DOES THE DRIVER WAN A WEE WEE COZ THE BOYS AT THE BACK WE DO

I still have my old membership cards and a stack of the Blues, I am sure the travel man was Arthur Meadows? he used to wear a blazer.

I used to travel the coaches to lots of games and they ran them when we we banned.

The Newcastle away when we were banned was one of the more infamous, I had to pick a ticket up from Arthur on a Street Corner with a load of Geordie's watching, even though we we banned we had more than half of the lower side tier in the standing area.

The supporters club coach was parked up at a Bus Station a fair walk away we had a police escort, scruffy coppers one had tattooed ears, they abandoned us near the ground.

The massed ranks of Geordie's waiting outside with Brown Ale Bottles had to exercise their legs en masse when they let out the Chelsea from the lower tier, cant remember the score but think we lost 1 nill while Spuds had won away 9-2 at Bristol?

I suppose we will be bringing out the crombies, oxblood DM's, stay press and Ben Sherman shirts next let alone the 'Arrington Jackets...I wasn't a member, but had a ton of programs which got lost when I joined the RM's and eventually moved to Canada...memories
