Loyal supporters! Tales of trips to the likes of Carlisle, Oldham, Rotherham, Shrewsbury, Wrexham, Preston, etc.
Chelsea v Burnley FA Cup Saturday 28th Jan1978, on arriving at The Bridge, The game was postponed due to waterlogged pitch. The word went round, go to Arsenal v Wolves. Along with quite a few others we went in The North Bank, however a few hundred, managed to group together, in The Clock End, you could hear them for most of the match, the game was televised, & the commentator even gave them a mention. Only 3 days later the game was played, Chelsea winning 6-2. Att 32,168. On the way back at KIngs Cross, a mob of West Ham, stormed the Tube, as we entered the station they lined the platform, there was well over 150+, they had replayed a 1 -1 draw, and had been thrashed 6 -1 at Loftus Rd. They kicked the sh*t out of the Chelsea fans, who were just regular supporters, Scarf's & colours on etc, I tried to leave the tube, by an end door as they piled on, I never wore any colours, to or from grounds, maybe a small pin badge on the underside of my collar, a group of them threw me off the tube and against the wall, I said I was with them, my brother supports West Ham, and I was well clued on games he'd been to, that season, I went with him to a 5-0 League Cup defeat a few months earlier at Nottingham Forest, I told them about the things that had happened at the game, they let me go, that was probably the best West Ham game I'd been to....Lol

This was the first & only game, I took my, now wife to, we were in The Shed, between The Tea Bar & West Stand Benches, I played down the prospect of trouble, before I took her, needless to say, she wasn't impressed, It will be her 30th anniversary of this game, on the 13th Feb,,,,,,LOL

It was like you said, I was in the side stand, it was just a crowd surge, even after we spilled on the pitch, we behaved, & made sure those on the floor were OK. The Acoustics in that stand were fantastic !..

As the police with dogs moved towards us & the centre of the pitch, from the right hand side,The Bolton fans ran from their end, towards the open end, within about 10 minutes we'd switched ends, I swaggered slowly towards their end, as the the Police ran with dogs toward us, there was a mass panic as the 4ft perimeter wall, was suddenly about 8ft, as there was a dry moat running along it, a mad scramble ensued, but with the help of other fans we made it into the home end. Where we stayed for the whole game. It has to be one of the strangest things I witnessed at football.

scariest ground
Also went to the Millwall away game 4th Sept 1976, my 2nd full season supporting Chels'. Like you stood in the CBL end, to the right of the goal post, went with 5 other lads from Stevenage. we were pictured in the next home game programme against Bolton. I remember the Chelsea making themselves known, and the Millwall fans making their way, from all around the ground to the Chelsea mob, I don't know how many were there. Things kicked of periodically during the game, I heard several Chelsea were stabbed. It was rumored West Ham ran with Millwall that day. The people behind us knew we were Chels' supporters, but looked after us. Once there was a battle there' In Mill In Millwall !

Where did you use to stand?
My first match was Oxford Utd Home 27th Aug 1975, won 3-1. I was 15. Started in the middle of The Shed, drifted left towards the Tea Bar, over the years, also West Stand benches, & North Stand a few times, if I wasn't sussed out by The Old Bill....Happy Days
